Ivy Tech 'Fall 2010' Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....

Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?

I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.

And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!

They told us about it in my nursing session (in November), but they didn't say when it would start because it was still up in the air. It will definitely stink if I'm not in the program because I am NOT good in math. Not at all.

On another note, I'm working out my schedule for this summer and I'm thinking about taking Micro AND math, both f2f along with a couple of other classes (pharmacology being one), but I'm not sure if it will be too much this summer. Last summer, I took English111, Psych, Med Term, and Math 050, all online, and it wasn't bad at all, however, I've heard that Micro is pretty difficult and I'm worried about the math. I'm not sure if I could swing it online or not (which would be better for me schedule wise than taking it f2f). Anyone else taken these together in a shorter session?

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.
Just curious, what is this about them switching to Math 136 as a co-req instead of 118? I had not heard that at all (it doesn't matter for me since I'm already in the program) but it seems like it will be hard for a lot of people to pass that class. I know a LOT of people don't like math LOL.

I just saw something ont he wall on campus today to have people come and ask about the new math requirement. Interesting... It doesn't affect me since I'm already in, and I have taken Calculus in the past, but it's interesting to see they keep upping the math needed for the program. We have math problems on all of our tests, no matter what the subject now. They told us last semester that it was a new state-wide requirement or something. Who knows!

So, according to another girl I go to school with the average TEAS score (here in Lafayette) for people who got into the ASN program last year was 85. That's what I got, so that makes me feel a little better! I'm still so nervous though... I have a 208 overall, but I don't know how I'm going to handle waiting and waiting for that letter!

208 is pretty high..... i know some people got in with 204. Good luck

Taranator, which pharm class are you thinking of taking this summer? You'll have a full semester of pharm in nursing school. I don't think I would take on Micro, Math, AND pharm all in one summer!

I took Micro (the 4 cr course) online last fall. There were a few chapters in the course that were really difficult to read and understand in the online setting with no lecture or prof to explain things better. If I had to do it over again (which I'm glad I don't LOL) I would take Micro in person.

Csab - I was just thinking about that before I hopped onto allnurses. I can't decide if I want to go full time or part time, but p/t is really calling my name because it would be nice to be able to focus on 2 classes only. I'm definitely taking Spanish (a friend and I signed up together and since I plan to move on and get my BSN, its good to have) and I'm really leaning toward Math because it's on the same day as Spanish and, even though I would be gone from 9-5, at least it would only be 2 days a week.

Do they do Micro online? Was it a hybrid course?

Micro online had 2 of 4 exams proctored as usual, (I think! Now that I think about it, I can't remember for sure if it was 2 or all 4 that were proctored!), and it had an all-day Lab Day in Terre Haute so you had to drive there that day. The activities at the lab day were really easy, some were interesting, some were kinda boring. If you skipped the lab day, then there was some alternate project to do that was only worth half the points and was VERY time-consuming to do at home--a girl in my nursing class had to do the alternate assignment because she missed the lab day because she went in to labor 3 wks early and had her baby that day! She said the alternate assignment sucked and she had to take pictures and write several long reports for things she had to do. So if you take micro online, DEFINITELY plan to go to the Lab day in Terre Haute.

csab- do you remember what month we went to the anderson info session last year? I have to put down the darn date on my app.

Looks like I will be applying to only Anderson and Indy. Also retaking my TEAS on April 1st at 9am...talk about last minute! Still have an A in anatomy...

Had to drop CNA because I apparently accidentally threw away my immunization record and didn't realize it til Sunday night. So I had to pick up a saturday Psych class (Human Sexuality), and two life skills courses. One of which, I've already taken but it was a different course code and more than one credit!

Kgle that stinks about the cna class! I was just wondering yesterday if you were starting it this week. I can't remember for sure about the date of the info session but I'm thinking it was either Feb. or March. I'm really not sure though, sorry! Sounds crazy but you might be able to look way back in old threads on here to find where we talked about it. Search on Anderson or something.

Aha! Found it! March 19th 2009! You made a post about going to it that day! LOL

Am I crazy?

I live in Evansville and am applying for the Fall 2010 ASN and LPN... I am sooo scared that I am not going to get in that I am also applying in Sellersburg and Terre Haute... I just want to go to school!!! I am sooo done with working this dead end job!! My question is, is it crazy for me to even apply so far away? Terre Haute is 109 miles away and Sellersburg is 120 miles away. How many days a week are the nursing classes? I have also thought about moving to go to school, but it is easier said than done. I would have to sell my house!! I am just sooo ready to start school, I don't want to wait another semester!!

Could someone tell me about Ivy Tech--Sellersburg. (What the program is like?, Length of days, Buying books, Library access, etc...) Any and all information would be helpful. I applied for this program and heve been accepted to begin in the Summer but am wondering some of the finer points of the program. Thanks:bowingpur:bowingpur
