It's not always about you - a mini rant

Nurses General Nursing

Published

So, why is it that some folks here always seem to have to interject their woes into threads. Consistently, it's about them. Talking about any aspect of pt care and there's a post (often from the same "usual suspects") about their issue(s).

I won't name names but you know who you are. Or maybe not.

Mini rant over.

Just turn off the hearing aids, eh?

:heartbeat:redbeathe

Actually, I have one.

I don't see anything wrong in talking about your own personal experiences as they apply to the thread at hand. It is good to see other people's experiences and I bet many times they are things you have either experienced personally in nursing or seen happen to others. What is wrong with personalizing your reply.

I find it refreshing and also comforting as I know I'm not alone in my various struggles in nursing. I want to know others experiences to validate I'm not alone in my struggles and frustration, but also to learn of others who have succeeded in improving working conditions and what means they used to achieve this.

Frankly most people's opinions and beliefs are derived from their own real life experiences, not the sugarcoated commercials you see on TV today "Be a Nurse, you make a difference"!

OK, this is what I think the OP means.

I've answered a lot of threads on this forum, and I've always brought some constructive information to the rants, even if I had to write a page and a half so you would understand where I'm coming from. Because it happened to me, and even if it has happened to you mine was so much worse, and relates more to what the OP asked. So I understand, and that stuff you wrote that was different than me. You are wrong, wrong, wrong, and I will keep pounding that into everyone's heads until you apologize (and maybe longer). It doesn't matter to me or anyone else that it was your experience. What you think doesn't even matter because I KNOW what's going on.

Hear, Hear!! Well said....

(and I am sure they were talking about you, anyway...;))

When I was 30, I didn't care what people thought about me.

When I was 40, I realized they weren't thinking about me at all!

Actually, that's a paraphrase of Howard Roark in "The Fountainhead," which is a variation of something attributed to GB Shaw. Or maybe Oscar Wilde.
