What nursing or medical pet peeves drive you bonkers in movies or on TV?
I find myself yelling at the tv and huffing about how wrong they got everything.
For example, when people rip out their IV's but don't bleed. Or ETT that are not taped down. AT ALL. Or when they shock a flatline. Or when nurses and doctors run for even the most minor things. Code patients who wake up looking refreshed and alert/oriented. Oh! And when doctors do things like start IVs or clean up vomit (yeah, right).
What about you?
TV/movie pet peeves?
Best/worst medical shows?
I think it was Chicago Hope when the nurse dropped the donor heart which skidded across the floor and they just picked it up, rinsed it off and transplanted it anyway. Probably the ER doc who also did neuro surgery!
We've actually done that with a cranial bone flap. We literally picked it up off the floor, soaked it in betadine, then rinsed it in bacitracin irrigation, and put it back in place.
I think the last one was when I was watching "Night Shift" and there was a chemo patient who had some "peritoneal abscess" that was found immediately on CT (because the doctor takes them to and from radiology in this ER and reads the CT as its being performed), and they were just going to drain this abscess in the dirty ER room...on a chemo patient. I really wanted to like this show and used to love watching ER but I can't watch this stuff anymore.
A surgeon and I walked into a patients room one day and the doc looked up at the TV and said, "Oh it's grey's anatomy. You know I did my residency there and I sure don't recall having that much fun. Heck I was too tired to be getting laid all the time." Me and the patient just died out laughing.

speaking of CPR...ah yes I love seeing the bent elbows during compression.
