Israel Hamas War

A 6-year-old Palestinian American boy was stabbed to death in his Illinois home by his landlord, who also critically wounded the boy's mother in an alleged anti-Muslim hate crime, police said Sunday, calling it a "senseless and cowardly act of violence.”

From your linked article, 724 children were killed by the Israeli counterattack. Omar took down the post when she learned it was not from Gaza.

Not sure what your point is.

A member of Congress maybe should be more sure of her facts before posting "CHILD GENOCIDE IN PALESTINE.”

Because the deaths of 724 children is inconsequential? It seems like a lot, to me. Approximately half of Palestinians are under the age of 18. So when you bomb them indiscriminately, that seems like genocide.

The post wasn't that 724 children deaths were inconsequential, but that her post on X wasn't accurate.  I agree that politicians in particularly shouldn't be posting false or inaccurate information.

Genocide:  the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.

So I suppose you can call them conducting warfare genocide.  I'm not quite there yet, although I really want a cease fire or Israel to stop this aggressive war.  But I feel there were in much more death and destruction as they are going to stop only when Hamas is eliminated and Palestinians will be caught in the crossfire.

I took the post to be critical  that Congressperson Omar (or someone managing her social media) intentionally used a photo from a Syrian attack to represent what Israel had done to Palestinian children. I took the term genocide to be hyperbole. Politicians use hyperbole all the time. As do many media outlets. Heck, I've been known to use it myself.

Yes, the post was critical of her and not of the killing of children in Palestine.  Rightfully so in my opinion because she could have offered information on Palestinian children without reposting a post including an incorrect photo of children that aren't even Palestinian from 10 years ago.  The photo makes the claim false in my opinion.

Omar retweeted something that was false and not hyperbole.  Like I've said, if it sounds too outrageous to be true, it probably is.

Yes, my post was critical of her.

You decided to insinuate that I thought the deaths of hundreds of children was insignificant.

I didn't reply earlier, because it was a rediculous deflection from my criticism.

You may interpret what my intentions were all you want. If you feel so strongly about the congressperson, I suggest you don't vote for her next year. To my understanding, she is quite popular in her district.

Politicians post false things and hyperbole all the time, especially in times of conflict. I give her the benefit of the doubt due to confirmation bias. I don't give that benefit to politicians who repeatedly lie about election outcomes.

US wartime propaganda hasn't really changed much over the course of my adult life. History is, after all, written by the winners.

As far as dead babies are concerned, whose dead babies am I required to value more? Answer that and you find a lot of interesting  threads to pull.

Locating your fighting force in the middle of densely packed civilian populations is not a new tactic and the propaganda fallout is fairly predictable.

Neither Israel nor the multitude of Hamas clones going on about ending Israel's existence has a clean record when it comes to dead babies.

Neither do we, for that matter.

People see something all the time that looks legit and share it with no comment (like I think she did) or something like "this is outrageous".  So I can give her the benefit of the doubt for doing that on the spur of the moment.  But just barely.  Someone told her it wasn't dead Palestinian children and she took it down.  Not a big controversy but really not one to defend either in my opinion other than she did the right thing by taking it down.

Even I as a lay person with a mere 1,000 followers across my social media am careful what I put out there.  I stop and think and don't react immediately.  I often see something and if it's a friend I debunk them.  It's quite easy these days.  Representative Omar has over 1 million on X and a million on Instagram and is the House of Representatives, she has a responsibility to post accurate information.

But I won't nitpick over that any more. I have to stand corrected myself many times.   She and the poster that put up the fake picture aren't the only ones talking of genocide by the Israelis especially after the hospital attack.  Talk about why you think so, present current information and media to support your idea.  It's not hard to do and as a politician with millions of followers try not to use hyperbole as that's not a professional way of speaking.

All in my own opinion of course.   I'm not a huge fan of Omar's but I don't dislike her either.
