One year I got Flag Day and Arbor Day off, worked all the others.

I work Pediatric home care and we make our own schedules. We work as much as or as little as we want and on the days that we want. Sometimes I like to work holidays for the extra money.

Specializes in Float Pool, acute care, management/leadership.

Not working the holidays this year; put in my two weeks and last day is the 23rd. Then moving to the Bay Area and transitioning to critical care at Stanford. I'll be spending a lot of time with family and friends during this holiday season, as this will be my first time moving far away from all my loved ones to a new city. Here's to the next chapter!

Shout out to the nurses working the holidays, make a patient smile :)

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

We have a two year rotating holiday schedule that you are placed on upon hire. You are welcome to trade, but otherwise, you work every other major holiday.

Cool, CCU at Stanford! Congrats! Expensive place to live, but so cool, so much to do and see. My family hails from that area. And enjoy these holidays with your family. You may luck out and be off next Christmas as well, but who knows for sure? Eat lots of good stuff. ;)

I'm off holidays this year because I am on maternity leave. Lol

Thank you! Her due date is actually today and my husband and I are super excited! (She is our first!) We can't wait to meet our precious little girl [emoji4]

Specializes in School nurse.

My husband and I are both nurses and so as you can imagine scheduling was a nightmare and especially so around holidays. So... I went into school nursing. Best move ever! ALL holidays off plus the summer. Whoohooo!!!

I like have Christmas Day off because my grandmother has her dinner then, but otherwise I can work any and all holidays. I would love the extra $$$. However when I worked PDN things were different. You only got paid extra when the office recognized the holiday. So if it fell on a weekend then you didn't get anything extra. That was BS.

My parents are Jewish, so Christmas is pretty meaningless to us. Thanksgiving is really the holiday I spend with my family, who live across the country. I had Thanksgiving & New Year's off last year but worked Christmas... this year, I had to work Thanksgiving. We were planning on visiting my husband's family in Florida for New Years, so I switched to work Christmas and took New Year's off. But he didn't get his vacation approved, so he'll be working New Years, haha. So we literally have no holidays off together.

Specializes in Home Health,Dialysis, MDS, School Nurse.

Worked my share over the years, but am now a school nurse, so have all the holidays off! Couldn't ask for better!
