I’m starting my accelerated 18 month BSN program in three months and for the requirements for our grades it states:
-GPA of 3.0 in any semester
-Cumulative GPA of 3.0
does this mean that I have to get AT LEAST get a 79.99-80% in ALL of my classes? They allow us to get two W’s and 1 fail.
Im super excited to start nursing school, however I’m very nervous at the same time since I’ve NEVER been a straight A student. Does my nursing program sound difficult? What do you guys think? And any advice on what kind of things you guys did or are doing which have led to success?!
Thank’s a bunches in advance! ?

I would recommend that you review the grading policy carefully... most programs do no operate on a 10 point scale and it's very common to see something along the range of 100-93 for an A 87-92 for a B and so on.
Also, many programs do not round grades.... so an 86.99 would be a C..
To answer your questions.. is it hard to maintain a 3.0 while in nursing school... not if you stay on top of the material and go to classes prepared... and does it mean that you have to get a B in every class... well unless your program states something different most require a C or higher to pass and given how GPAs are calculated if you make a C in one course then you would need to make an A in another course of equal hours to average a 3.0
Best of luck. And if you ever find yourself struggling always ask for help early.. remember that instructors want you to pass but can do very little to help if you are at the end of the semester prior to asking for their help.

It depends on your program. In my program, we are on a ten point scale. Your final grade must be 80% to pass each course and they do not round grades. So if you have a 79.9% you fail the course and you are dismissed from the program.

Depends on the program and can also depend upon other variables. Like many things in life, sometimes there are "special" rules for "special" people and the general public or group may not be privy to those "rules".

80% is the low end of a C at my school, but if that’s a B at your school that shouldn’t be difficult.

And to give another perspective, I've gone to class thinking our test was 2 weeks later, and surprise, it was today and I barely knew what it was on, and I'm keeping a 3.0. It's all up to who you are as a student. Some of us need hours of prep before every class, and some of us just wing it and get the same outcome. To succeed in college, for any major, you have to know yourself as a student. For you, nursing school can be one of the hardest things you ever do, but it can also be one of the easiest.
For your grades, only you can find that answer. Your GPA is your total credit hours taken divided by your total grade points. For your exact average you might be able to get a C and still be above 3.0, but you can also be where a C will bring you below.

I don't see how anyone can really answer your question without knowing the specifics about your particular program, your abilities/intelligence/study habits/time constraints/other personal attributes and circumstances.
We can wish you good luck, though.
Hi guys!!!
Thank you all for your help- I immensely appreciate it & all of you definitely answered my question! Ouch, that’s pretty brutal that some schools won’t round just because of .1%!!! ??
Yes, for my school system a 89.99% = A.....79.9% = B and so on!
Thank’s guys! ?

Our school system was different to the nursing program. The school was the typical 10% bands. The nursing program was 94-100% A, 87-93.9% B, 80- 86.9% C. We needed a C to pass the semester. I managed two A's and the rest B's, after going into the nursing program with a 4.0. It's tough.

Same at the school where I attended nursing.. every other program was on a 10 point scale except the nursing program.

It will depend on your scholastic abilities and your school's grading policies as to how difficult it is. I would check you school handbook regarding grading practices. If you are concerned about your ability to pass a course - reach out to faculty sooner rather than later, and if you school offers tutoring services and/or open-lab take advantage of these supports.
