Is maintaining a 3.0GPA in a nursing program difficult?

Published

I’m starting my accelerated 18 month BSN program in three months and for the requirements for our grades it states:

-GPA of 3.0 in any semester

-Cumulative GPA of 3.0

does this mean that I have to get AT LEAST get a 79.99-80% in ALL of my classes? They allow us to get two W’s and 1 fail.

Im super excited to start nursing school, however I’m very nervous at the same time since I’ve NEVER been a straight A student. Does my nursing program sound difficult? What do you guys think? And any advice on what kind of things you guys did or are doing which have led to success?!

Thank’s a bunches in advance! ?

Depends on your school. Go hang around outside the nursing skills lab and ask the current students.

I’m in a program where the vast majority of students scrape by with Cs, completion rates hover around 20%, and NCLEX pass rates are 100% for grads.

I found nursing school to be easier than the science prerequisite classes but that’s just me. I will stress READ your textbook, especially things in bold, boxes, italics, etc. They’re emphasized for a reason and tend to show up on tests. If you have lecture (most of my classes were online) and the instructor repeats something, they didn’t stutter-it’s a hint to remember it. Also, get used to knowing how to read the questions. It’s a lot easier to answer a question if you understand what it is asking. You would be surprised how many students have this problem. They know the answers, they just aren’t good at taking standardized tests.

Best of luck!

The accelerated students at my school had a much lower gpa than the traditional 3 year students because they had to take like, 25 credits a quarter. However, I don't think it was too hard to keep my GPA above 3.0 in the regular bsn program; I graduated cum laude with a 3.8 gpa.

My program requires 75% cumulative on all exams and quizzes and 75% overall to progress to the next quarter. My school also does not round grades, at all.

Success, well if you goto class prepared and keep up on studying you should be fine. But then again, I don't know you. There are students in my class that study really hard and don't get A's. Then there's the students that study the night before and get the high score. So, it depends on you. I personally read the book and my power points. I have managed to keep straight A's. Also, I see a lot of other students reading way too far into test questions - they go down a crazy rabbit hole. Practice questions are your friend! I always do the questions at the end of the chapters. Any other practice questions your program recommends, do them!
