I have applied for a couple of DON positions at local home health companies and have been called for interviews. At 3 of the interviews, I find out that the DON position doesn't exist, they are just trying to get field nurses. They have even been brazen enough to say that its the only way to get any applications, as no one wants to be a field nurse anymore. My reply is simply "and you think lying like this is going to help get employees?". I then get up, gather my things and leave! Is this becoming the norm in nursing, all specialties//locations, or is it just home health, or my locale (south central Indiana)? Please tell me there is some honesty in hiring left in our profession.

Geez - that sucks
Its bad considering that I'm about 45 min-1hr away from everywhere. I even specifically ask before going after the first incident. The lady yesterday grabbed my arm and tried to force me back into the chair when I went to leave. I called their corp office, but doubt it will do any good......sad.....

This happened to me, I filled out an online aplication, got a call almost immediately. 'Oh, that position, and all others like it, are already filled, HOWEVER, would you be interested in...?' No, I would NOT!!! I am in your general area, too.

I think that lack of honesty, ethics, and sense of right and wrong has been expanding in the world of capitalism and the free market for some time now. It will continue to expand as those businesses continue to be rewarded by dishonesty and lack of ethics with fewer negative consequences to dishonesty and lack of ethics.
Remember, the goal of for profit business, even in health care, is not to be nice, or honest, or ethical; the goal is profit.

Good for you, giving a piece of your mind. Really, if they're willing to tell that big of a whopper when they are making their first impression, what other lows are they willing to sink to?

Talk about a huge waste of your time. I would be upset as well. I am not surprised though. Even companies that were good to employees are awful now. The only thing they care about now is $$$$$$$$$$$.
