Ok, I am currently an LPN (working as a hospice nurse) and I just recieved a letter of renewal for my CNA certification. My question, is it needed at this point in my career? Will it mean a hill of beans at any point???? I would appreciate any input on this!

i dont think it is necessary... i saw a recent thread that was similar but pertaining to RNs with LPN licenses and the general consensus was to let it expire because you dont really need it any more. im sure someone else will chime in with more info.

I'm with Ashley. Unless for some reason you plan on working as a CNA in the future and keeping your LPN as a secret, I'd let it go.

In many states you can't work as a CNA if you are licensed as either an LPN or RN. There really isn't any point in keeping the CNA active.

You need to find out the rules in your state about an LPN working as a CNA. Is the CNA certificate needed for that possibility or can an LPN use their license to be hired into a CNA position? You never know when you might want to get a CNA job. If the certificate is needed for that, you might want to keep it active, otherwise, let it expire.

I think that now that you are an LPN you won't be needing CNA anymore....

Keep the responses coming, I'm an LPN with a CNA license due to expire soon also, and am interested in more feedback....
It's not a license. It's a certification.
Hence why it's called Certified Nurses Aide and not Licensed Nurses Aide.
Check with your board of nursing. They'll have an answer for you as to whether or not you can work as an aide while holding an LPN or RN license.

Be very careful about working below your license.
I have no desire to work down on my license, or go back to being a CNA... I have worked to hard and fought to get where I am... I am just going to let it expire. Thanks for all the input, I really do appreciate it!!!!
