What a pain it is for a patient to get finger pokes every hour on an insulin gtt. (We aren't allowed to pull off an art line for samples) Why hasn't someone invented a little finger heparin pad thingy or a finger port to keep a small ooze available? :studyowl:
And how about beds with a detachable center hole under the patient's bum so we can slide a bucket underneath too catch poo? hee hee
What other inventions would you like to see?
How difficult is it to understand 2, TWO visitors per patient!!!
And when there are six or eight of you in the room, please DO NOT sit on the other empty bed in the room!!!!
And my biggest peeve NO CHILDREN UNDER 12.
I cannot believe the visitors who want to bring the grandkids in 'for just a short visit' and then stay for HOURS letting the kiddies run wild, cry, scream and even CRAWL on the floor!!!! When told to get junior off the floor they say "It's a hospital, it's clean" Are they serious????
Liquid calcium? How about a good tasting potassium. Wow! Have any of you gotten one of those horse pills caught half way down your swallow box? My doc says chew them, my dentist says don't you dare.I just drink OJ and hope my K+ stays somewhere near normal.
Good tasting potassium: Bananas, potatoes, and broccoli are my favorites, and have none of the stomach irritating qualities of the horse pills.
I'd like a bed that FLUSHES, with maybe a little bidet being part of it, or a hose with a sprayer, followed by a puff of warm air. I'd also like easy- to -put -on sweats for elderly and quadraplegic (maybe with velcro on the inseams, and out seams).
I second the post about being able to dictate.
I'd like better lifting devices that you could carry with you.
Maybe automatic feeders that paralyzed patients could operate themselves by eye contact.
Probably a lot of inventions could be developed that would aid patient care, but unless it makes a big profit for someone, I don't think it will happen anytime soon. If we can send a man to the moon, don't you think we could manufacture a bed that flushes?

Oh honey, your wish has come true, thanks to the people at Buck and Buck! Take a look at their adaptive clothing. They've thought of everything. I just can't say enough nice things about them! (They'll even sew the client's name into the clothes--for free.) I got a lot of things from them when my dad was in the nursing home, and we all were very happy with the clothing.

The aides and nurses just love the way you don't have to have 3 or 4 people to help get the clothes off someone who cant stand alone. Plus you dont have to remove the shoes or socks before getting them changed!
