Pre health science/prenursing

Hi everyone,

Has anyone done any prehealth science/ pre nursing course before going into nursing? I am wondering if it would help me better with my sciences since I am not doing to well right now. I am working on getting my biology and chemistry right now. I am 25 and I guess think that I'm getting too old but really really want to get into nursing. It's my dream job and will do what I can to get there.

So I just want to know if anyone found pre health helped them before entering?

Thanks for the help!!

Not only is pre-nursing helpful, but it many cases a necessity.

All nursing programs are very competitive right now which means if your grades aren't high enough, you will not get acceptance. I know many hopefuls who have all their pre-req credits but are redoing them because the marks were too low.

At 25 you're too old?? Yikes, I was in my 30's what does that make me, a dinosaur? :lol2:

Good luck!

Thank you so much!

I really appreciate the advice. I had strong feeling that it would be in my best interest and you had just confirmed that. :w00t:

I took a pre-health program before getting into my PN program, I found it useful :)

Click on her user name. There should be a notation that says "registered user" then five icons below her name... a blue circle with an "i" in it, a piece of paper and pencil, an envelope, a green circle with a "+" in it and a magnifying glass. Click on the envelope and go from there. (Perhaps you might want to view some of the tutorials on using this website: HowTo Video Tutorials and read some of the FAQs.)

I think you will find until you have 15 or more posts you will not see any icons allowing email or pm's to be sent to members, however they can send you their email address in a pm which you can read, just not respond

Hey, I am a pre health sciences student at fanshawe college. I know you have some answers already but I just wanted to contribute that I have spoken to nursing students who say that the sciences greatly helped them in first year nursing..

Pre health sciences is -not- easy but I do want to say that I find the older students seem to do well. As well having the prehealth cert gives you additional consideration when applying for your program but keep in mind they tend to limit what schools you apply to ( I can only apply to western and fanshawe collab program for rn with this cert.) It's 1 year. If you can't get direct entry into nursing and really want it badly I urge you to consider it.

Really?? I'm taking Pre-health @ Georgian and was never told that was limited to where I can apply with this cert. In fact we were told to keep all of our program outlines for when another school asked for them. You are earning college credits so they should be accepted as pre-reqs for any school. I would double check that before you skip out on applying for another school. You can apply to 5, so you should apply to that amount, if you can't get into Fanshawe, then maybe you could get in somewhere else right? Or wait until the following year and try again if that's where you want to go. ;) Good luck in whatever you choose!
