  1. According to this info on the CNO website http://www.cno.org/Global/new/NCLEX/Canadia_NCLEX_FAQs_toPost.pdf Americans and Canadians will be writing the same exam. Check it out, lots of info on the subject
  2. hello ladies and gents, i was wondering if anybody could tell me their opinion of what it means to be a professional nurse from the perspective of nursing standards. i am a first year nursing student and still trying to grasp the concept. maybe some of you have recently learned this and could help me out? thanks!:)
  3. Georgian is actually opening a brand new health sciences facility this fall. Brand new classrooms, equipment, and even a birthing simulator. Barrie campus would definitely be the best choice. You can take your prereq's through any upgrading center, I know the Collingwood campus offers them for free, and I think you have to pay at the Barrie campus, but I'm not sure. Don't quote me on this, but I also think you can start the upgrading courses at any time as it is mainly independent learning (in Collingwood anyway)
  4. you can apply for pre health through ontariocolleges.ca (search for prhs). once your in pre health you can apply to the colleges of your choice once they start accepting applications. i would suggest taking pre health at the college you want to attend for your nursing program as you have an advantage already being a student there. they consider you a college transfer instead of a mature student or highschool applicant. if you actually want to learn and are serious about the program it is very beneficial to take pre health and i think it gives you a little extra preparedness once you enter the nursing program. you will have already been in college for a year and know what professors expect of you. hope that helps!:)
  5. hi! i had an 87% avg last semester. i haven't received a letter about the acceptance yet (just the ocas offer) so i'm not exactly sure what i have to keep my average at this semester. i know a girl who got in for the bscn winter 2011 intake with her first semester pre health credits (she also had previous life experience and a degree in something else) and her condition was to keep her math and chem above 80%, so i assume it would probably be similar. i'm sure the gpa minimum is different for each school though, so check with your registrars office. good luck! :)
  6. i got my acceptance to georgian today:yeah:for the bscn program in september. it's a conditional acceptance providing i keep my pre health marks up this semester. i also got accepted at seneca but chose georgian, i think it's a better school, closer to my home and i am already familiar with the campus. plus their building a brand new health sciences facility set to open in september. i'm so excited! you should hear soon if (if not already) if you were accepted first round. if you haven't heard anything yet don't sweat it, lots of people get acceptances and choose to go to other schools, leaving the opportunity for you. good luck!
  7. i was told not to expect any news until after the equal consideration date for applications which is february 1st. even then you won't hear unless you were accepted in the first round of students. it could take months! i'm dying of anticipation as well, but nothing to worry about yet. good luck!:)
  8. i'm sure if you have done nothing wrong the cno will vote in your favour (or whatever it is that they do?). i'm just winging it here, but i'm sure that they are probably required to investigate you and your personal life after receiving a complaint such as the one they received from your employer - so they can determine if the accusations are true or not. there are similar boards/ rules for all public professions ie. police, doctors, paramedics, counselors etc. if there's nothing to find then everything will be fine. personally, i'm glad that there are people doing this job, it lets me feel better about the people who are caring for me when i am ill or hospitalized - but i do feel for you in the fact that you are going through this because of false accusations. if it is found that your employer was in the wrong, or went too far with minor issues, than i hope there are consequences for their actions. good luck:)
  9. What did you not like about York if you don't mind me asking? I've heard that from a few other people as well.
  10. I'm not sure what you mean about specific to BScN or practical nursing. Pre health is designed to prep you for many types of health care programs, not just nursing. It gives you the pre requisites you need to apply to those programs, plus extra courses like Critical Thinking, Health Care in Canada, and some gen-eds of your choice. I am attending Georgian, but most colleges offer very similar programs.
  11. I know that Georgian and Seneca both end up at York, But Humber's program is a collab with University of New Brunswick, so all 4 years are done AT Humber. It seems as though there are less courses to to as compared to the other two as well. Has anyone attended either of these Colleges, and/or have an opinion on the program? How about York, whats it like there?
  12. All you need for pre health is English. I didn't even graduate highschool and got in with just my GED.
  13. if you want to bring your pre-req marks up without going back to high school you can do correspondence courses on your own time (through the ilc - google it- independent learning center) or take a pre health sciences program at your local college. that's what i'm doing right now (pre health) and it's a great refresher, especially if you've been out of school for a bit. both rpn and rn programs are highly competitive and there is a slim chance you will get in with anything less than a 75 - 80% avg in your math, bio, english and chemistry. pre health will also prep you for your hoae test - this is the assessment test done to get into rpn, paramedic, dental hygeine etc. (health occupation aptitude exam). the best thing to do is contact a college of your choice and ask them directly. to see what schools have the programs your interested in go to ontariocolleges.ca :) hope this helps!
  14. hi! i was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on georgian, humber (north campus), or seneca (king campus) for the bscn program. i am currently at georgian in pre-health and i have applied to the three colleges listed for september start. i'm fairly confident i will be accepted (fingers crossed!) into at least one as i had an 87% avg last semester. i would really like to go to georgian as it is the shortest commute for me, and i'm already familiar with the campus and such. i know i probably shouldn't pick a school based on location, but it's necessary because i can't just up and move wherever i want. if anyone has studied at either of the 3 colleges i would love your opinions on the staff and the campus! also, if there is a college you attended that would be completely worth a longer commute let me know! thanks:)
  15. I don't think it's an illness either. But it is a condition, just like eczema, acne or IBD for that matter. :) And I'm definitely not trying to put anyone down or single people out. I'm sure your great at your job! I was just curious.
