New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

^^

Well even if retrogression is lifted... i still prefer australia because as of the moment they have the stongest economy... But lifting of the retrogression is good news too.

true! Australia is just one of the few remaining developed countries which are not in recession brought by the global financial crisis...:)

for those who are heading to the USA, that would be a good news for them.

this is originally posted ny uh_huh

to future australian rns:yeah:

i am posting websites i found online which can help us understand the national registration scheme. :specs: just so we know....

exactly what i mean!!!!

take note of the news date, check the date of your application. some forgot to read this and proceeded to enquire for ways to apply and register hurriedly.

best of luck to you guys. i don't have to rain on your parade.

:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

thanks for your concern anyway :)

Lets concentrate on Australian dream... we are considering the country because it is in the top 5 best country to live in 2008

1 Norway

2 Sweden

3 Canada

4 Belgium

5 Australia

BUt then again with the economic crisis and still having one of the strongest economy then maybe the rank even went higher....

a bill has been filed in the u.s. congress seeking to create a special non-immigrant visa category for filipino nurses and other foreign registered nurses.

the proposed legislation dubbed, "the nursing relief act of 2009" (h.r. 1001), will create a temporary w visa category for registered nurses. it will work in a very similar way as the h-1b visa except that the category is exclusive to registered nurses.

the proposed w visa cateogory will have a yearly numerical limit of 50,000. however, the cap may be increased depending on the demand for foreign nurses. a w visa will be valid for three (3) years at a time.

Dear Layla,

I've been lurking in this thread for several days now.. reading what people post here. Pardon my comment (if it's too straight to the point), but, I just want to say that I think the US issue, or any update about the US for that matter, should be discussed in another thread. I have been active in this thread for months and I really wish everyone will just stay on topic here. This thread is made to help Filipino nurses achieve their dream of coming to work in Australia and New Zealand. This thread has helped so many nurses and I want to keep it like that or at least keep the environment here as friendly and helpful as before.

Some people here may be concerned about the US issues, but as you can see, most of the thread posters/lurkers here come here for information about Australia and New Zealand. I would appreciate it very much if you could just open up a new thread about the US and have discussions there instead of posting them here.

this thread is solely dedicated to overseas nurses who have dreams of becoming a Aussie RNs...as what the thread title implies...its a clear note to all of us.

by the way, what happened to the Phil. governments appeal to the NZ board of nursing, about not accpeting second coursers in NZ?

Congratulations! I do hope things go well for you in the next steps you are to take. :)

As for the schedule, I think you have the option to choose the date when you are going to take the exam. However, they have a time limit up to when you can make up your decision - but as far as I know it's a long time. Someone here can explain more about this, I'm sure. :)
