Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
"just got an email from qnc that they're now requiring a band score of 7 in all subtests effective march 6. my result was just forwarded last feb20. i assume they havent received it yet that's why they email me about it. good thing i'm still qualified.
not sure about the 6 mos. experience. probably it's not applicable for those whose papers were already assessed........."
QNC assesses individual application on a case to case basis... I knew of many RN's who do not have any clinical experience but was given the approval to sit for CAS and eventually got registered. As per memo of QNC about IELTS requirment now to be straight 7, I am pretty sure all the other Nursing Boards across Australian States will follow very quickly in raising their requirements to an all 7 band score. Hurry.. its hard to be causght in their transition as requirements are changing pretty fast, Look at the latest Bulletin from Sydney Nursing Board, everybody is preparing for the transition to a One National Registration Body due to take effect mid of next year. Those who will be catched in transition period will surely have another set of requirements to fulfill... which eventually would be more difficult as the National Registration Scheme will allow all nurses registered to work INTER-STATE!

Hi Guys,
Have got some inside news from US, retro is soon be lifted. They will be having the frozen process of hiring nursing very soon. We don't need to worry for IELTS anymore coz US doesn't require unreasonable scores.:yeah:
We will just have to have a little more patience and we don't have to worry the IELTS coz we will have another reasonable and better recourse. Don't be scared that other countries will become stricter, they are scaring us, so that they can exploit us new graduates. IELTS don't care of patients, but the nurses do.

Not sure where you got this from when the US president has stated he wants US people to be trained and not bring in foreign workers. Lets keep this thread to topic which is Australia and NZ

Hi Layla, I would appreciate and for sure the whole forum would appreciate if you can direct a concrete link as to where you got this information. For us here in Australia the ideology remains that is there is recession right now in the US, where there are not enough jobs for their own citizen how come it would be the US government priority to lift the retrogression. Wherever an RN wishes to go, that is up to their discretion, we cannot tell an RN to use their head by not going to Australia or go to Kenya or anywhere else.

I think any currently registered nurse in Australia can work interstate as per the Mutual Recognition Acts 1992 and even in New Zealand under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 2003.

i think our statements or our posts here should be evidence based and not only based on hearsay like "inside news" or "inside information" , when we post critical information, i think we should cite where we got that info or provide a link if you got the info from the interwebs, so that it could be evaluated, if the source of info is really credible so as to prevent dissemination of any wrong info. let's be responsible posters.

Hi Guys,
When I say "use your head" I mean you should be clever and observant to your environment. This is the internet. Anybody can listen as to what silverdragon qoute in previous posts. Observe what mostly is posted here. OUR HANDICAPS. We are asking people how to make an instant remedy in which by the way you ask it, they can look inside us that we really "don't have it".
Why should I leak the inside info. That is why it is called inside info. Got it???
Don't you think the agencies are not viewing this too. They are!!! Even the people in Kenya.
I never said any country. I never singled out Australia. What I am trying to imply is that BE WISE. SOMEBODY IS LISTENING. This is the internet. Now they raised the score of IELTS to straight 7. That is what we get of being not to careful in postings. SOMEBODY SHOULD BE SMILING NOW.
Should I say "we'll see".

You're right branyan. But this is the real essence of the National Registration, easy and seamless access for Nurses. With these Acts and Recognition, you still need to endorse licenses and pay applicable fees if people would just stay for 3 months in a place. You also have to renew or reactivate your license after that. With the National Registration, there will only be one license in Australia which you can use anywhere else in the country.

national registration & accreditation scheme - july 2010
australia’s healthcare workforce is going to go through a radical change, with the introduction of the national registration & accreditation scheme in july 2010.
the decision to implement the national registration & accreditation scheme emanated from a meeting of the council of australian governments (coag), on 26 march 2008. coag took a major step towards improving australia’s health system by signing an intergovernmental agreement (iga) on the health workforce. both the meeting communiqué and the iga are available on the coag website at http://www.coag.gov.au
this agreement will, for the first time, create a single national registration and accreditation system for nine health professions:
this new single system of national registration and accreditation is aimed at promoting a more flexible, responsive and sustainable health workforce for the australian community, by essentially streamlining the registration process through reducing the red tape involved when healthcare professionals relocate interstate to practice. it will also result in standardized accreditation and standards for the respective health professions.
the implementation team to progress this single national registration and accreditation scheme is now in place with staff located in brisbane, canberra, melbourne and sydney.
health ministers have committed to ensuring arrangements are in place to ensure that professions, consumers, registration boards and education providers, as well as members of the general public have the opportunity to contribute to the implementation of the new national registration and accreditation scheme.
for more in depth information and updates on the national registration & accreditation scheme visit the health workforce australia website at www.nhwt.gov.au
to assist victorian nurses and midwives, the nurses board of victoria has created a national registration & accreditation scheme faq document, which can be accessed via the link below. ongoing regular updates will be provided via this link.

Hi Punjabi,
I got a private mesage from you but I do not know how to reply using the system here, sorry for that, Im still low tech catching up with technology.
If you taking the Challenge Test, have those books, Binan Goonj is about the Aboriginal and Cultural Module, the challenge test as I said are all book based, and Binan Goonj is the main reference book they are using together with Legal Aspect (Savage) and Context of Nursing (Daly)
If you are from Phils. I know someone whom you can borrow or buy, not sure if they still have those books. I can give you their reference, but not through this public forum, with respect to the person involved.
Take care
