Have you been one of the lucky ones to avoid coming down with it so far? I tested positive today for type A. I did get the flu shot, but obviously it didn't save my husband or I this year. I've been exposed nearly daily for the last two weeks so I figured it was coming. Thank God I have tomorrow off as I suffered through my shift today (no patient or staff contact). This is not how I planned on spending my New Years Eve. Our local hospitals have finally instituted the limited visitation rules. People were bringing infants to see family members who are on isolation for Influenza. Here's hoping the season ends quickly.
We have at least 7 confirmed cases in our facility, two of my residents tested positive in the past 24 hours.. so far only one CNA has tested positive *knock on wood*. I lost my older brother to H1N1 last Feb so I am trying to be as careful as I can but I'm still worried about getting sick.
Sorry for the loss of your brother.
I'm sorry to hear about how many are suffering right now and for the losses associated with it. So many people do not realize just how bad Influenza really is, and how it can lead to other complications. I hope for all of us that the season is nearly over. Strain A was huge in our area, and now B seems to be making headway. I'll lose it if I get the B strain next.
I work in a large multi-specialty medical group and have been exposed to numerous cooties, but so far, so good. I think maybe 2 or 3 out of probably 75-100 patients we have seen have tested positive for flu A. Seems like I've swabbed 100 nostrils in the last two weeks lol!
I did have double pneumonia two years ago and the recurrence of that scares me more than the flu. I was out of work for 3 weeks.
Knock wood. I have an immune system of steel (never had a UTI or yeast infection in my life, and if I do come down with an illness that's going around the household, it's usually about a week or so after everyone else exhibits symptoms). But we have had so many documented influenza illnesses at our clinic, I wouldn't be surprised if I did.
Google flu suggests we already peaked in late December (as it seems we do every year) so I'm hopeful.
