Indiana State University BSN students

Published

Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!

Thank you so much!!!! Somehow I missed that post. I am so excited to be starting in school and even more excited to know that my BSN isn't going to be as difficult as I thought to get. Thanks again!!

You don't have to be licensed to get info..use the web form at http://www1.indstate.edu/nursing/forms/inquiry/lpn-bs-inquiry-form.htm

The forms that require you to be licensed are NOT ISU forms...they just look like it because they are using ISU's logo without copyright permission.

Says who?

call 1-800-GO-TO-ISU and ask to be tranferred to Nursing....there have been some problems with the phone system - upgrades, etc...and your message could have been lost.

Not sure what you're talking about here. :coollook:

those sites make users think they are ISU sites....ie that one must have license to get info from ISU...not the case....and they have not obtained permission....that is why there are no links from ISU pages to (ie) TCN

TCN does have a contracted partnership with ISU to provide study guides for the challenge exams. They have permission to use the logo. ISU can confirm this if it's really bugging you. :) You don't need a license to obtain information but you do need to be a licensed LPN to be eligible for ISU's program.

OIC thanks. Figured you had just started your new year celebration a little early or something. :beer:lol!

I was just looking on-line about what their charges are per credit and there was a statement that starting 2008-2009, (for Indiana State) that all out of state distance learners would now be charged the out of state rate which was 600+/credit. (Forget exact #) Used to be 200 something/credit hour. Very disappointing, and now doesn't make much sense for me to go this route. Anyone else get socked with this?

If this is the case how can they justify making the students find their own clinical sites and preceptors? I can pay that kind of money and get a quality education from a private local school, provided I can get admitted. Personally, I find the association with TCN to denigrate the entire process as well. If you are required to pay that kind of tuition, then they should come through with the goods. Nothing I've seen in the info they have sent me indicates that they will help me with the clinical placements.

Honestly, the connection with TCN is a bit of a turn-off for me too and I'm an ISU student. I actually like the way they do clinicals though. I like having the freedom of choosing where I go. I'm going to NIH and Hopkins this semester. Not to mention that being an independent student lets you form a lot more connections directly with the staff which will be really helpful during job hunting. Also, the school itself isn't that helpful with placements but I've found the professors to be helpful when students have trouble with placements. There's even the option of going to Terre Haute if that's feasible.

As far as help with sites, when I started it was much better than now. Mike, the former guy, was amazing. I gave him the URL for the hospital I wanted to go to at the other hospital I went to and he did *everything* right down to connecting me with the head of nursing education. Mark, the new guy, is nice and pleasant to work with but aside from the contract portion you are on your own. With Hopkins he did the contract and left me with a contact name who was just a secretary in the legal department who was definitely not helpful. I started from scratch finding the right person and in a place the size of Hopkins it was quite a daunting task! You just have to be a proactive person and be determined. Start early and go into it knowing that you're on your own. I found it kind of invigorating once I got past the initial frustration with Mark basically dropping me in the parking lot with no direction. Depends on your personality though. Weird people like me find it exciting, others may just feel abandoned and overwhelmed so YMMV.

One thing I did find was that at different points in your career you may be in the same situation so it's actually a good skill to develop. A couple of times I've run across nurses pursueing specialized training that requires a preceptor or internship that they have to arrange themselves so, while frustrating, it isn't something that is unheard of.

I'm starting my first semester this Spring (2009) from Cali and I am paying the in-state tuition rate.

Chaxanmom, congrats on your grades. Boo! They should let you graduate with honors and grant you credit based on the "technology" hours (running to Staples, making copies, sweeping crumbs) :D that you've acquired throughout the semesters.......

I guess I better load up on Staples supplies, Kleenex and See's candies before the holiday sales ends.

I'm from Cali! Where in Cali are you from? I'm hoping to start in the fall (keeping my fingers crossed for that!) :wink2:

Chaxanmom,

How much $ are the 4 CSM challenge exams? Also, did you feel you had to study for them much?

The practice questions seem fairly easy for me.

Applied for Fall 2009 =)
