Indiana State University BSN students

Published

Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!

Chaxanmom,

How much $ are the 4 CSM challenge exams? Also, did you feel you had to study for them much?

The practice questions seem fairly easy for me.

Applied for Fall 2009 =)

Brenda

Depends on the test. I think the maternity and peds ones were about $245? I thought they were all easy except the peds one. That one kicked my butt with all the developmental stuff. Ugh. Passed it though.

Yeaa about Fall 09!

This thread is awesome I am still weighing my options right now. I have five classes completed from CC. I will be cleping and taking Dantes course as soon as I pass boards.

Is there anyone on this forum that has actually graduated from ISU's LPN-BSN program? I've done a search and can't find this answer anywhere.....

Not yet but two of us are seniors. I'll be done in December. :yeah:

I'm from Cali! Where in Cali are you from? I'm hoping to start in the fall (keeping my fingers crossed for that!) :wink2:

So Cal. PM me if you need more info., thanks.

That's wonderful news! Congrats on your progress so far!

I am giving ISU's LPN-BSN program serious consideration but I have so many unanswered questions. Would you be willing to answer a few?

* At the present, the closest established clinical location is over 6 hours from my home. Does ISU sign up sites based on local enrollment? Or would I have to find the sites myself?

* For current ISU students... how would you rate the clinical experience and overall education? Do you feel you are being adequately prepared for your RN/BSN role?

* Bottom line... is it a worthwhile investment?

Thanks for your help!

You aren't limited to the sites they have contracts with. Those are there because other students have gotten contracts with them. If you want to go elsewhere they will help get the contract set up. You always have the option of going to Terre Haute to the sites the on campus students use if its feasible for you. Some students do that if they have trouble getting a clinical contract. I like this program because 1)the flexibility and 2)the autonomy. I've had great clinical experiences because I can choose the best hospital in my area (going to Hopkins and NIH this semester) and you learn directly from the nurse preceptor you get assigned to and its one-on-one so you don't get lost in a mass of fellow students all competing for the interesting cases. At Suburban (hospital I was at last semester) they made a point of making sure I got to observe codes, I got to handpick the patients I wanted, etc. It was awesome. What could be better than having the clinical site all to yourself? lol! :clown:

Hi all...just checking in with my fellow ISU classmates:wink2: I am so excited to be starting class this spring, I will be graduating this fall, Dec. '09 and I feel like I am finally on the home stretch. It has been a long road but one that will be so worth it once I have BSN behind my name.

Chaxanmom-Are you taking 424 or 450 this semester or both? I am taking 424 and planning to take 450 in the summer but I have not officially heard that they will be offering it. I have heard "most likely" but not an official yes. I really don't want to take them both this spring with 90 hours of clincial each. Are you planing to attend graduation? My friend and I (who is also graduating in December) are driving up.

Anyone else getting close to graduating?

Chelle

Yes I'm going to graduation. I'm so glad to hear you are too! I checked the rosters and saw you are in 424 with me. Yea!! :yeah:I'm taking both 424 and 450. OMGosh...450 scares me. 3 papers, a teaching presentation plus all the regular classwork. Oh and an ATI. 424 has an EBP paper (doing mine on the Surviving Sepsis Campaign...already started mine!) plus ATI plus classwork. Arghhh! Oh and for 450 you need a 94% to get an A. Oy vey! I was planning on concentrating mostly on 424 since I want to do critical care but it looks like 450 is going to demand a LOT of time. I'm taking Comm 101 through Ivy Tech as well this semester but it sounds like it might be fun. It's only 100 level so they can't demand toooo too much I would think.

The 180 clinical hours are going to make it hard. I'm doing 2 days a week at NIH for 450 clinicals and then one 12-hour shift a week at Hopkins for 424. Haven't figured out yet when I'm going to do classwork, study and do all these papers! Oh well, it will make the semester go fast for sure!! lol!

Chaxanmom-Do you mind if I say that I think you are nuts:D Do you work too? I work full time and I really don't think I can handle 424 and 450 at the same time....I am also finishing my last two prereqs (spanish II and statistics) so two heavy nursing courses are out of the question. Kudos to you, I hope you do ok, that work load gives me a headache thinking about it.

Chelle

Nope, I couldn't work full-time and do that course load. No way. It's hard enough with family and church obligations. My husband is stationed in Phillie for a year so I'm a single mom most of the time. We have a really busy church with stuff happening 3 out of 5 nights of the week so I can't imagine when I would go to a job. Weekends are family time since that's when dh is home so I have really just 2 weekdays a week to get this done. Ow...now I have a headache! lol!

I have a question... I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but I want to double check.

IV training was not done in my LVN training. Any LVN-RN program I would attend here locally would include that in my training, but I'm not sure ISU does. Especially since I won't be on campus for skills lab. I'm guessing I'll need to get my certification before I start the program. Am I right?
