So, here is my little temper tantrum for the day. I am so sick and tired of self absorbed, trouble-making coworkers who think that they are above reproach and self absorbed. I work with this horrible woman who tries to get every nurse she works with into trouble. recently she tried to get the 3-11 nurse on my wing fired for diverting narcs, even though she wasn't. She consistantly lies and makes up stories about how (the particular nurse she wants to pick on) is incompitant and even goes into thier personal life. She is so vicous, that she even accused this same 3-11 nurse of being a lesbian (not that there is anything wrong with it if she is, that is her business), being an incompitant mother (she recently lost a child to side effects of drowning) and how the relationship she and the DON has is so inappropriate. a month or so ago, she calls me (unfortunately my was on the on-call list, as I was once a PRN employee who went full time) and tells me that since she is a stronger nurse, the supervisor and her talked, and since the CNAs down there need to be "straightened out" that she would go and work on the hall that I was hired for. I have been told by this same supervisor, that the DON and her are aware of the games she pulls and are trying to find a way to let her go and replace her, (we are in diar need of nurses) so she can't torture anyone anymore. Now her sickening game has clamed me as its newest victim, and I over look a lot of crap she shoves my way just to get my work done and go home. It's getting to the point now where if i am not careful about taking my GERD meds, I get such bad reflux that it's gone up my nose. the latest incident has me in such a tizzy. She had the audacity to go to one of the CNAS, IN WALMART WITH ME IN EAR SHOT, and tell her that I am unfairly picking on the CNA under me. When I only looked at her and rolled my eyes and continued on with my task at hand, she spoke even louder, to try to get me to pay attention to her. I am SOOOOOO tired of this. I have gone to my supervisor so many times, and at one point the supervisor told me that if she was able to stay in her stead she would have fired the woman on the spot. GAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for listening......I just had to get that off my chest.
Get out of there Fast!
This woman is dangerous.. and it is even more dangerous because management refuses to fire her. She has already falsly accused someone of diverting drugs, she could do something to hurt your license and you'll be the one fighting for it.. she'll just be sitting back, talking, with no harm done to her. Get your butt out of there now!!!!
This person is dangerous. No telling the rumors she starts in the community about staff and other occurances at the facility. Of course, it does not have to be the whole truth, just a grain or so will snowball. I would document all of her drama, I would speak to the super about her talking at Walmart about facility matters, and I would think twice about a new job. I worked with someone just like this a few years ago, the staff of the unit had gotten along for years, suddenly there were rumors and problems that started and increased until staff morale was the pits. Some of us started talking one day, we had known each other for years, and we just decided to be honest, well, before long a lot of the problems were traced to this nurses door. We made a pact to discuss things prior to losing our cool and get to the bottom of issues, we talked to our CN and HN and told them we were getting a little tired of a good work place going to the dogs because of rumors and lies, we wanted an open staff meeting and issues to be discussed. To make a long story short, this nurse decided to go on medical leave and never returned to work. She was having mental health issues and transferred a lot of crap in her life to others. I saw her last year, she is very sad and very sick. Alot to consider for you.

Great thread to read regarding lateral violence.
I don't know how much ammo mgmt has on this person, but it seems they are slow to act. Document everything that goes on with her. Approach those supervisors in the facility that you would like to use as references, look for a new position, and when the time comes, go. If they should happen to wise up and get rid of her before then, ok. But you have to look out for your own license, and this one person makes the entire workplace hostile. From what you've described, it sounds to me that they should have done something long ago. The false accusations involving controlled substances would have done it for me, if it were my decision. What are they waiting for? A patient to die? Protect yourself.
Here is a little update as well,
Now she has told me that she was offered a supervisor's position because she is the nurse with the most senoirity on my shift (the rest of the nurses have quit, and i have been there 5 months, and the other nurse just got hired. I consider myself lucky wiht this one nurse, because i worked with her in one of my other previous facilities.) and tried to sell me a whole line of crap. I swear if she gets a supervisory position, i will put my 3 weeks in on the spot. (my facility requires a 3-4 week notice), ACKKKKKK :banghead:
Try sticking to talking to the crazy lady on an as-needed basis only. "CrazyLady, your pt in bed 8 just tried to fall out of bed, but I stopped him." or whatever. Anything else save for somebody who's worth it. When she tries to gossip or lie about someone ignoring her or giving her the blank stare should help her realize you aren't going to take her nonsense. Assuming she doesn't get firing or you don't find another job, of course.

you know, i have a huge issue with drama **** at work too! i totally understand how upset and mad and angry you are. i feel like that a lot. i have had to really just vent to my fiancee and let it go. know that we are there for the pt, dont bother with what this other person does to other co- workers ( i know that sounds mean/bad, but you have to limit your exposure to this crap or you will just end up getting yourself in trouble) and do what YOU can for the pt and the other staff members when you can.
gl with you and yours! just know you can vent on here and we understand!!!
