If not nursing what other career would you have done?

Published

Just for fun, if you were to choose a career other than nursing what would it be and why?

Specializes in psych.

Nursing is a second career for me. If I could have I would be a bush pilot in Alaska. Just seems like the coolest job in the world to me.

Specializes in oncology, MS/tele/stepdown.

I want to own a bakery/bar combo, with recommended drink/cookie pairings and such. Specials for healthcare workers!

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.
Specializes in Neuro.

A writer or attorney

Police Officer...by now I would have definitely been a detective.

Specializes in LTC, Rehab.
Writer.

Well I guess we (and some others) better get busy, eh Viva? :^) Actually I'm more likely to start on some art soon rather than writing, but I've got to do more of both while I'm still topside, so to speak.

Specializes in Medical/Surgical/Telemetry RN.

Engineer at NASA

An IT Professional (Cocdeing or Internet security...)

Maybe work with the CIA, FBI.

Specializes in CMSRN.

Veterinarian or Medical Examiner

If I could go back to the past 10 years ago I would try to be MD. At the moment I cant see myself in any other profession than nursing. Maybe I could be special needs teacher though if I was forved to leave nursing.

Specializes in CMSRN, hospice.
I'd probably be a writer or doing something in music. I admit the pay is nice as a nurse though. And best thing is I can still be a writer or musician , especially since my nursing job pays the bills.

All of this, which is why I never answer this question with "writer" or "musician" - I already am those things too! Pretty easy to crank out ideas every night while my patients sleep and during my four looooong days off every week. ;)

If I were to have a different day job (or I guess just a day job), I've always thought about:

-Marine biologist

-Music therapist

-Interior designer

-Professional organizer

-Forensic psychologist

I'm an occupational therapist, I would have chosen CNP, PA, DO, Vet....I want to be on the front lines with ER and in my travels to 3rd world, actually provide medical expertise on mission trips or peace corps.
