If I Said on Here What I Wanted to Say.

I don't know if I am just hard hearted after so many years of nursing, or if I have just seen too many malingerers, or just too many people who blame their problems on anything and everyone but themselves. But if I answered half the posts on here with what I really feel, I think I would be thrown off. :uhoh3:

We realize that people come here for support. However, there is no denying that certain posts are out to lunch.

Or what planet.....:uhoh3:

wow, sounds like bitter burn-out central over here.

this is an internet forum. people come here to vent. even when they are "asking for advice", they're really just looking to blow off steam 99% of the time.

"suck it up" and "what were you thinking?" type answers are even less constructive than being nice. give me a break.

If this thread sounds like bitter burn-out central, you might oughta reconsider the ED as your chosen field. This thread is gummi bears and ice cream compared to what you will see in your ED coworkers.

NOW I'm back on the wagon, he he. Really.

I hate to break it to you, but sometimes in life all you can do is "suck it up." It's not a bad thing.

I just had a pt tell me I'm happy and positive, so I don't fit the bitter, burnt out mold. :)

I'm not burned out- I'm only 7 months in! I'm merely voicing my ire at people who:

Write posts in an unprofessional manner- teenybopper talk is hard enough to read in real life let alone in a post asking for advice, be it a quick answer or genuine advice (which I do in fact seek here). Sloppy posts convey laziness, and if you're not going to take your time to spell things correctly or in text talk then it's actually sort of disrespectful to those who don't understand it because not everyone does.

Or

People who (and I realize I didn't even elaborate on this) hide behind various "cards" to get away with mistakes, cheating, and otherwise bad behavior. They get called out for screwing up something, they get punished, and instead of trying to learn from their mistakes they complain to the dean of nursing that because of language or culture they were harassed and unfairly picked on. No, no...no...if ANYONE was caught looking at someone else's exam in class, or was caught WHISPERING TO YOUR NEIGHBOR during an exam, they'd be hauled out on their ears too. If someone fails a skill during test out or during clinical- such as taking vital signs, then they probably had better get some help, not complain that they don't speak english and therefore shouldn't be penalized!! And this really happened, yes, 6 years ago during my LPN clinical, the lady had something like 3 tries to get vital signs right and she didn't get it...but somehow she graduated with us...while another was failed for droping a bottle of insulin, and another failed because she couldn't pronounce the name of an antibiotic and the instructor made her keep trying until she was 20 minutes past med pass and it was considered a med error and she failed. (**secondhand info, this is understood, but wouldn't surprise me in the least)

So yeah, maybe I AM bitter. Maybe I'm irate because *I* have nothing to hide behind.

not really though.

all i'm saying is being mean/snarky in responses comes off as bitter. people don't come here for genuine advice. they come here for a quick answer(which most of the time they already know) or a little support.

anyway whatever, go ahead and be mean and condescending to posters if it makes you feel like you really "helped" them.

Should I be an LPN before an RN?

Should I be a PT or an RN?

Should I get an ADN and then a BSN, or go straight for the BSN?

Can NPs work independently?

Should I go to XX University, or AB Community College?

Should I work while I'm going to school?

UH...... yeah...these are asking for genuine advice from complete strangers, who may or may not be who/what they say they are on a public forum with HOPEFULLY nurses/students on it, but nobody knows- so the "advice" (not advise- as some say) asked for seems pretty longterm and potentially life-changing as I see it. GO to the career counselor, IN PERSON, at the pertinent college/university- and get accurate answers based on a real information source. (AN is great for clinical questions, and what have you encountered? types of things- but choosing a career based on what people you don't know have to say about it? Nuts.) :uhoh3:

Then, we have the following:

Hiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!! I'm new hereeeeeeeeee :D ( Really? You don't say. :uhoh21:)

i got them (a) care plan do tomorow (tomorrow) so i need help fast i need to no (know) how your (you're) coming to them (the) rashonales (rationales) i looked up noomonya and cuddnt find any thing i need it in for hours (gee, wonder if the search engine recognizes phonics???) YOU WILL KILL US IF THERE IS NO PUNCTUATION INDICATING A PAUSE- AT LEAST LET US BREATHE- LOL:lol2:.

And whatever you do, please use capital letters where indicated. Don't think that spelling and grammar consistent with a first grader are going to be received well when it's supposedly coming from someone with some sort of college education, or at least a GED. If you are an actual RN, there is no excuse for poor English or grammar...if you need to, get a book and sharpen yourself up- it will benefit you a LOT in the long run. A BSN with lousy grammar and spelling will be ditched in a heartbeat for an ADN with proper grammar and spelling. It's all a part of how you package yourself. Seriously.

What are three nursing diagnoses for my care plan?

I need this ASAP. DO some work, tell what you think, and let's DISCUSS it- no drive-by homework :D

Tell me about XYZ disease; I'll be back later. (sticky on this readily visible, one of the easiest PILES of information to search for)

I left a patient in a tub with the water on high, no cold water, and I got kicked out of school (changed details). I'm going to report this to the BON- because as a student they want to hear from me. (yeah, right....to the BON, a student is right up there with flies on a bug zapper). If they don't listen, I'll tell them she's shooting up on breaks- I HEARD someone say she might be doing that.

I took my dog's pain meds, and I have a drug screen tomorrow- what should I do? (maybe have the dog pee, if he's not getting the meds )

No reference to what the reply is responding to- just some out of the blue comment, after 7 pages of back and forth comments; it SEEMS to be in response to the OP, but who knows? (newbie "mistake".....but gets confusing)

The ever popular "old nurse eating young" that comes up about every 2-3 weeks, and continues to be annoying. Newbies aren't starving either. :D The older ones just know better recipes

Another popular recurrent theme- patients have to be writhing on the floor to warrant being medicated, because how they LOOK determines their pain level......uh huh. Get old enough to have your body deteriorate in whole systems, and let's revisit that one. Just hope and pray that nobody takes care of YOU who thinks like YOU when you are in pain. Just sayin' Better yet- get a mail order CEU course on the various types of pain and pain management. A 30-hour class isn't that expensive, and will be useful in ANY type of nursing :)

Can't forget the useless, selfish, leeches on society that encompasses ALL people who can't work. Yeah. I planned all of my "stuff". Being useless when I LOVED working, and dealing with newbies, and patients that others turn up their nose at has been a huge loss.

Pray you don't get there- but a heads up- I didn't see this coming when I was in my 20s and early 30s either. Save some money and get good disability insurance. The days of buying anything that's not on the clearance rack are OVER..... and you might even need to get USED clothing at thrift stores if you want your carcass covered up. :)

It goes on and on. ONE day, someone is going to have to "suck it up" and be uncomfortable enough to just get the job done, and do it with some sense of working together. Learn from each other. (I've had some great responses on some student/First year forums that have taught me a LOT about how messed up nursing school is compared to how it was 27-28 years ago when I started- it's a COMPLETELY different animal that isn't complete- it makes total sense why new grads aren't getting the jobs- the hospitals have to finish their education- in other words- they cost too much). Not fair for anybody.

The final tidbit...if a room full of experienced nurses with current jobs in the area you want to work in are doing something, and YOU are not (or vice versa)..... it's probably not THEM :)

I hate to break it to you, but sometimes in life all you can do is "suck it up." It's not a bad thing.

I just had a pt tell me I'm happy and positive, so I don't fit the bitter, burnt out mold. :)

Hey...my DH's best friend told me I am Rebecca Sunshine, and I need to grow up or I am going to get walked all over in this bitter cruel world. So I am right there with you....doing my happy dance.

This has been one of my favorite threads this week.

i got them (a) care plan do tomorow (tomorrow) so i need help fast i need to no (know) how your (you're) coming to them (the) rashonales (rationales) i looked up noomonya and cuddnt find any thing i need it in for hours (gee, wonder if the search engine recognizes phonics???)

Oh wow. I just had one of those thunderbolt moments. People can't find what they're looking for with the search engine because they can't spell. And it doesn't occur to them to go back and check their spelling.

Because they are missing the "learn from my mistakes" gene.

Which means that in the practice of nursing and studying to be a nurse, they jump right from "this is a learning experience" to "everyone is being mean to me for no reason."

This is a huge discovery. It all makes sense now. This explains so much. I bow to your wisdom XTXRN!

Yes. I'm a little slow these days. But I'm learning!
