I don't know if I am just hard hearted after so many years of nursing, or if I have just seen too many malingerers, or just too many people who blame their problems on anything and everyone but themselves. But if I answered half the posts on here with what I really feel, I think I would be thrown off. :uhoh3:

Yeah...ok.

joanna...this is one of my favs...but especially when it comes from a prepre nursing student directed to another prepre nursing student..and they are telling each other what great (or grate) nurses they will be....yeah, right..you don't know anything about each other or the profession, for that matter, but you will both be AWESOME nurses!

This is the problem. Too many schools now and too many students who want to be nurses. Compassion isn't enough. The standards just aren't high enough. And you have people giving false reassurances. They failed their exam umpteen times, yet they'll make an awesome nurse?? What is that?

When you ask what nursing specialty has the least math...well....that's concerning.

I wanted to come through the computer screen and grab the person who wrote that by the nose hairs and scream "Are you freakin' kidding me?" I could not believe that was a serious post......things like that make me very afraid for the future of this profession:uhoh3:

We are so screwed when all you oldsters retire! I just might need to switch careers when the mass exodus does happen. Who wants to work alongside these people? Help us all.

I prefer the term "seasoned professionals"....teehee:D....but you are correct! At least we can spell and perform math calculations..and therefore have not killed too many of our patients over the years!;)

OMG I think I need to print out that post and tack it to the bathroom wall at work. And the breakroom. And the side of the pyxis. And at the nurses station. We have currently two people on orientation who are not getting it. And they are the nicest folks ever. But I am afraid they are going to kill someone by mindlessly giving meds 'because there is an order for it.'

Even some of my grouchier posts don't quite convey the annoyance I feel sometimes.

I try to show some restraint and maybe even delete more than I post... but honestly!

one of the things that i will say makes me almost right away disregard a post is when the first sentence is 98% mis-spellings and txt-talk, and sounds like it was written by a very immature 18 year old. "so liek im a new nurse and whaever lolz im want 2 work n labor and dilvery cuz i luv babiez. how do i get a job there? thx!

i don't even try to read it.

i believe english is ever evolving and changing and that's okay... but text-speak isn't a subtle twist.

it's a blatant mutilation and i can't read it!!

it doesn't even read phonetically half the time!

whatever, kids... whatever...

but no one is really going to take you seriously when you attempt to convey a serious thought in text-speak.

That was pretty bad.

I guess there are folks that think they don't need to know how to do math, write, wake up on time, be polite, have interpersonal skills, practice good hygiene, follow the rules, suck it up, follow through, adhere to commitment, touch bodily fluids, listen, chew with their mouth closed, give a crap and when to shut the flyin' flip up.

Just saw a post so full of entitlement recently, I still get annoyed when I think about it.

well, never fear- the mean, arbitrary, and vindictive nursing instructors who have no heart and don't like facial piercings and don't remember what it was like to be a student with loooooove in her heart will flunk their butts out. and we'll hear about it here. but at least we may not have to have them care for us when we are in the beds.
