I Really Do Not Want the COVID Vaccine ?

(So glad I stumbled across this website again after almost 6 years! I need to change my username because I am not an aspiring nurse anymore, I have been a nurse for almost 3 years! ?)

Anyway, I really do not want to take this new covid vaccine. I know I can’t be the only one who feels this way. Typically I am not an anti-vaxxer but something about this illness is making me think otherwise. For personal reasons I really do not want to take it when available at my hospital, but I’m afraid it will be mandatory. I am almost considering finding a new job if my hospital forces us all to take it. What a shame because I do like my job and wouldn’t know what else to turn to that isn’t nursing, because chances are most healthcare related places of employment will likely require all employees take it.

I want to use the excuse of it being against my religion but I already took the flu vaccine this year. I have nothing against the flu vaccine but didn’t necessarily want it, but my hospital practically FORCED everyone to take it unless they grant you an exemption. I’m afraid they’ll question me why I took the flu shot but cannot take the covid vaccine.

What do you guys think about this? Will you be taking the vaccine? I just want us to be able to make our own decisions about this. If patients can refuse medications, procedures, and treatments, why can’t healthcare workers do the same? I read in multiple articles it will not be required by the federal government but each state and employer can decide whether or not it will be mandatory.

And forget the $1500 “stimulus check” that may be offered if you take it. All the money in the world would not change my mind about taking the vaccine. I feel as though if you have to bribe people to take it, something is peculiar.

I don’t know why this is bothering me so much. It should be a choice in my opinion. But by telling a few friends about not wanting it I feel judged. I have worked with covid patients multiple times since I am one of the younger nurses who does not have any kids/am pregnant. I feel like week after week I was always chosen to go to the covid section. At first I was mad but now it doesn’t bother me. I am not afraid to be near covid patients. Luckily through all this time I haven’t caught it. I always tell people I’d rather catch it than get this vaccine. That’s how strongly I feel against taking the vaccine. All of my non-nursing who have had covid are covered and thriving. To me catching it isn’t the biggest deal but others have called me selfish because I could be spreading it to others. Why is it looked at as selfish for not wanting to inject something into MY body. #mybodymychoice

Am I thinking about this too much? What would you do?

Trump can communicate at any time without Twitter, facebook or any other electronic interface.  He has a press office with many fine  employees and can call a press conference at any time to communicate.  These companies have every right to ban him after he conducted this particular type of criminality.  He has Fox and OAN and the attention of many other loony tune news sources.  I heard a guy on Fox complain about people being able to "eat on airplanes but not in a restaurant" and nobody called him out on that.  Many airheads will be listening to that man and getting riled up because all those other people are eating on airplanes:)  No skepticism at all.

Yes, some people may get "riled up' that's part of the process in United States. Yes people eat on airplanes and in states like Florida we also eat in restaurants. However, if you go to California and eat in a restaurant you will get fined or worse (assuming it was somehow open) because there it against the law. People are entitled to believe what they want, live where they want, and pretty much say what they want so long as it is not in violation of law in the area where they live. I would argue that is a very good things. Also, most of the conservatives that I know have abandoned Fox News for NewsMax because they believe Fox has gone way to far to the left.  Not sure about OAN I simply haven't watched them enough to know what their perspective is .For me it is NewsMax, BBC, Fox News (Tucker Carlson only) and MSNBC (because I want to know what the other side is thinking).  In print I read Realclearpolitics, BBC, and the Huffington Post (for the same reason as MSNBC).

This discussion belongs in the politics club where we can discuss the dangerous failures of the Trump adminstration not limited to vaccines.

The Trump administration whether you loved it or hated it is finished talking about Trump is about like talking about Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton, or George Bush Jr. . As for the Covid vaccine(s) some people want it and cannot get it (yet) and others have reservations.  I did hear today that the EU has enough vaccine for at least 80% of their population.  No doubt the US will be close behind so that is it at least something that everyone can probably agree is a good thing.

I stand corrected wabout eating on airplanes. I see that longer flights are back to serving.

Also, one thing that I believe that the Biden administration will truly excel at is making the vaccine widely available quickly. There has been a great deal of emphasis on that during the campaign and I believe that if you want the vaccine it will be available really soon.

Yes, he has already announced plans to do so.

President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. plans to release nearly all available coronavirus vaccine doses “to ensure the Americans who need it most get it as soon as possible,” the Biden transition team said Friday, a move that represents a sharp break from the Trump administration’s practice of holding back some of the vaccine for second doses.

I'm also glad that he is still planning on following the science and advice of the experts.

Releasing the vast majority of the vaccine doses raises the risk that second doses would not be administered on time. Officials from the Food and Drug Administration — experts whose advice Mr. Biden has pledged to follow — have spoken out strongly against changing the dosing schedule, calling such a move “premature and not rooted solidly in the available evidence.”

I saw this and feel very conflicted about it. I understand the desire to vaccinate as many people as possible, but to deviate from how the vaccine was studied seems like a big risk to me.

Hello, this is my first time posting, not even sure anyone will read this but wanted to share my experience. I got the Moderna vaccine on  12/31 and since everyone else was getting it, without hesitation got mine. I had the usual arm pain, under the weather for 1 day, HA, fatigue then on day 3 I started to get very itchy, head to toe, even my ears. Noticed a rash on my arms, back, abdomen. Went to derm to R/o scabies bc I do work in the ER and deal with all sorts of folks. Advised NOT scabies and was told it was a “hypersensitivity” to who knows what.maybe my detergent ( but I’ve been using the same brand for 20+ yrs). Its now 1/26 and the rash is gone but I am still very itchy...still. It’s been a nightmare. I thought pain would be the worse thing ever but I think being itchy might be right up there. Wondering if anyone else has gotten a delayed rash and long term pruritus. Wondering if I need to see an allergist now and not dermatology...

Here is a starting point for you to do some research.  If you decide you want go go to an allergist, make an appointment NOW because other peope are doing the same thing.  It should also be reported .

Also in addition to seeing your PCP and reporting you should do the things that often help reduce inflammation such as getting at least 7.0 -9.0 hours sleep, daily exercise, and a diet low in high glycemic index, especially processed foods.  From a natural standpoint certain things like turmeric, omega three fatty acids EPA/DHA , green tea, and ginger can be helpful.
