...handle loose/pulling teeth!! It is a spine tingling, goose-bump inducing hard limit for me! I mean, once they're out, I'm good. Its just the sight of the wiggling tooth and the act of pulling it out that just makes me squeamish, man-oh-man!! I'm soooooo thankful for my admin assistant who is willing to handle this ever prevalent occurrence in the school setting! But that makes me curious....
....what's your hard limit? Do you have something that, if you can, you pass on to someone else?
I don't even know what to say after reading that.
Eyes, that is the Kryptonite for both my wife and I. I steel myself when a student comes in covering an eye. My poker face will fail immediately. Our pug had a partial avulsion a few years ago, neither of us were any good.
This used to be it for me. Eyes just grossed me out. Everything was meh. But school nursing has helped me get a bit past that and I have become a champion at putting saline drops into a squirming MS or HS child's eye(s).
But, I still have to compose myself a little at the scent of a clearly not washed in a I'm-not-sure-how-long uniform sweater/sweatshirt. That smells gets to me a bit.
I don't do teeth, but not because I'm grossed out or anything. I just don't. I've got a pretty iron stomach & not much gets to me. There was one time when a special needs girl with beautiful long hair puked a huge chunky puke & it got all over herself & in her beautiful long hair. That was pretty gross.
I have two things I wish I could pass to someone else: Eye injures and Insect killing. I had a student with a broken blood vessel in his eye from an impact injury and my eyes wouldn't stop tearing up (Just thinking about it now makes my eyes water!)
I bet you'd really be creeped out by this: We have two kiddos here who, when they have had a bloody nose, have had blood come out thier eyes!
Not much grosses me out too much, but I also wouldn't pull a tooth. One tip that helped me is that a wide smile will suppress the gag reflex. I used that this weekend when I was cleaned a winter's worth of dog crap out of the back yard. Anyone walking by must have thought I was unnaturally happy about doing this chore. lol!
