...I had three self-harm related meetings today. They all came up yesterday at the very end of the school day. And one was the one that hits you the hardest: the kid that isn't on any radar and clearly you see needs the help the most.
I hope you gave THEM a hug, but here's one for you too.
Um, of course I did. Several. And several more to the parents trying to work with us to get each child the supports they need.
Wow. These students got a ton of support, but we as caregivers, need to give each other support as well. School nurses don't often have anyone to debrief with like many other nurses do.

I agree. We always had debriefings in the ER after particularly tough cases, but people in the school don't think about what the school nurse has to deal with on a day to day basis.
You can always come here to "debrief" with us. I debrief with our guidance counselors since we are often involved in these cases together. There is one guidance counselor in particular that I go to and she comes to me when we are particularly stressed over situations.

Are things any better? Some days these kids absolutely destroy me...
