Doing away with the position - informatics.

Specializes in med surg.

I cannot believe that an informatics nurse was let go, I am so sorry for you. However, I admire your positive attitude and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Specializes in ED, ICU, PACU.

:icon_hug: So very sorry, Sue.

This might just be the best thing for you since that job was dragging you down; but, I know it isn't pleasant when the pink slip comes, mo matter how bad the job is.

You will do great in onc and this little break is probably just what you need to get a much deserved rest before diving into your new job.

Specializes in Peds Hem, Onc, Med/Surg.

LOL I saw your post that said that you almost didn't want the other position, just because of that you are going to get it! That is the way life works.

I am glad that even though you were laid off you aren't upset by it. You are headed for bigger and better things!

Thanks again, all.

Well, it took my mother until this past Monday to ask if I could come down (they live 300 miles away) and help out with my father, who has been recently diagnoses with Parkinsons. I stayed until today and got a lot of things in order, including Dad. I'll be spending 2 - 3 days a week there for the timebeing.

This lay-off WAS a God thing. It couldn't have come at a more necessary time. We need to move closer and I need to help with Dad. He is NOT going to a nursing home.

Caring for my father, who is lucky enough to be surrounded by people who will care for him, has reinforced a love I had - LTC. Hate the regulations and paperwork, can't think of a group of people who need me more.

:)

Oh, I didn't get the oncology spot. A candidate came along wiuth experience hanging chemo. The director was actually nice enough to let me know.

Specializes in Mental and Behavioral Health.

Oh, Sue! I'm so sorry! It just means the Lord has something better for you! Keep looking to Him. He's going to bring you through just like He promised.

it really is amazing how these things work out.

yes, all this stuff happened for what is now, an obvious reason.

hope mom and dad are ok...

does this mean you would eventually like to return to ltc?

I was just thinking the same thing...does this mean a return to the nursing home scene?

Yes, definitely a return to LTC. My old farts need me.

:)

Oh, and it's kind of amazing when your mother is approaching critical mass because Dad just soiled himself with BM and you just say, "Mom, move. Let me do this. No, get out of the way. Baby wipes won't do it for this." as you brandish your basin and washcloth and soap. She says, "But - oh, it's just a body part. I did this for my father!" and I clean the feces from his scrotum and tell Mom to apply more salve because it was red from irritation and she had stopped, by yesterday, crying.

I am bringing home laundry (they're apartment dwellers) and doing some food shopping here )incredibly cheaper).

I got his toenails and fingernails, used an orangewood stick to clean the poop from underneath, shaved him - the increased risperidone had kicked in really nicely by yesterday morning and he no longer thought we had him on trial and were feeding him udered babies.

*sigh*

I had to stop my mother from forcing him to hold onto the walker when he was still delusional and frightened. She's so over the edge. While she knows intellectually that the hostility is because he's sick she still gets hurt and was upset that he was kind of cracking me up.

It was amazing to see how efficient I am at this stuff.

Hang in there. I was in the same boat as you with losing a position I never really thought I would have to worry about. My colleagues and I had the intial "bad" karma, but have all since found some good karma along the way. I am sending good karma your way as well. Good luck and remember to take care of yourself too.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the onc position, but it seems that you are needed in LTC and this is God's way of getting you over there. Good luck.
