I hate it when people say this...

...Was talking to a childhood friend that I haven't seen in a long while when she said :

" I don't know how you can do this, I just couldn't be a nurse, I'm way to soft hearted"

I smiled politely but what I wanted to say was ...

Well duh!!! What do I look like? The Marquis de Sade??

Does anyone else get dumb things like this said to them?

"And half the time, I AM the doctor!"

Yesssss!!!!

Hell yeah!

You know that's true, baby!

Now THAT would be refreshing.:lol2:

Oh, what a nice job it must be to sit and feed babies all evening. Oh, man, sure, especially when they each take 45 minutes to eat LOL

And...what do you mean you don't know about this med or how much I should take...hello, if you weigh more than 5 kilos and it ain't a neonatal med...don't ask me! I think I cut the tip off my finger...could you come over and look for me...I have it wrapped in a towel (oh yes, a true story)...well, are you bleeding all over...yes, well, find the end and take it with you when you call 911. Geesh! LOL

and...oh, all the blood and stuff...how do you do it..what, you think I am yawing open body cavities on my shift just for fun? What blood and guts? You watch too much ER! LOL

I really hate this question. "What type of nurse are you, an LPN or an RN?" Especially from people who don't know our roles in nursing and are only interested if you are the nurse that they think makes more money.

I am kind of sensitive about people who judge other people by their occupation. Like when your at a party or social event and it seems like an interview. "What do you do?" And if you pass that question they will talk to you. When I was a waitress I tended not to pass the interview and they would be off to talk to someone more worthy. Now I tend to pass the interview, but have a hard time warming up to people who ask that question as soon as they meet you.

I hate the....."oh, you're just a LPN...." :(

Then, the..."you can give shots and pills for real?" :uhoh3:

And the..."are you going back to school soon to be a RN?":stone

DUH!!!!!!

Right now I am in school to be an LPN.

I have only encountered encouraging remarks. But I hate when they say. "When/are you going to be an RN?"

Yeah, let me finish school first. What LPN wouldn't be good enough i guess. Whatever!

I get that alllll the time, the "I could never be a NURSE!". I don't think people mean anything by it. They just don't know.

When ever someone says to me,"I could NEVER be a nurse!" i simply reply"Yes, I know you couldn't."

They can take it anyway they want.:D

When I was in nursing school I had a friend say "I could never be a nurse. I couldn't work that hard!" Little did I know how right she was about the hard work part.

What annoys me most is when my RN friends try so very hard to discourage me from the very profession that they chose themself not too very long ago !! They are my biggest discouragement right now. That's why I come on here and listen and chat with all you great people. :)

what bothers me is the whole "Ewww, you want to be a nurse, you will have to wipe butts all day" give me a break!

I've been a nurse for going on 21 years and of course have heard that "I couldn't be a nurse" line a lot. I don't interpret that in a negative way, however; I think most people are actually expressing admiration and respect for what we do. Didn't I see a poll recently that nurses are still one of the most respected groups?

Occasionally you do still get an idiot whose ideas of nursing comes directly from TV or x-rated movies, but I don't think that's most people.

I also don't get upset when people ask me questions about their meds, etc. Maybe because I think that is an expression of the esteem in which they hold the profession, or the degree of trust they have in me personally.

As for medical school? I just say, "No way! I don't have any desire to be a doctor!" I like the ex-Marine's comment of being even better, being a nurse! I also like the comeback about being a nurse but not delivering the mail- I'll pass that along to the nurse who works with me who happens to be of that gender.
