I had a pt that told me she was afraid she had the "smilin' mighty Jesus" which is .....spinal menengitis

And I forgot this one....any wound that has maggots in it. I just hate seeing that! Actually, any time any bugs fall off a pt it is gross.

I also thought my old ED had theme days. We used to hve "Slingblade Day", and we would all talk like Billy Bob Thorton in the movie Slingblade. (ummmm,I reckon I won't kill me nobody today so they won't put me back in the nervous hospital,ummmmm) We also had Ministry Of Silly Walks day, and we all had to have a different silly walk. Anything to get thru those 12 hours!

Vitamins. I just hate the smell of vitamins. There are even some pharmacies I can go into because of that smell. I know it's crazy.....

I am with you, bargainhound. I was in a similar situation several years ago. I felt I could not donate without feeling like a total hypocrite. I would give to my place of worship or to a favorite charity,jo272, and try and think positive thoughts while I did. Then just let it go.

And don't scream and curse at me when I have to call you about your patient on a Sunday morning, and then end the rant with, "And don't call me because I am at church!" It makes me wonder what exactly you are worshipping!

I am not in our pool now, but I have been in the past. One of the things our pool does is have "Mother's hours" where nurses work 4-5 hours relieving others for breaks,lunches, etc. They might work,for example,1000 to 1400. They also have a class for nurses they have now been practicing, but want to return to nursing. I think these are two things that have made our pool successful.

One of my favorites: caller: I was just looking at a calender. me: Yes? caller: Well, I was looking at February. me:Yes? This happened over 20 years ago, and it still creeps me out.... I was working in an acute neuro unit at the time. I had been off for a few days, and when I got back I had a pt that was new to me, but she was was 3 days post op from a craniotomy for a bening tumor. She was doing very well, in fact the only reason she was still in acute care was because there were no empty step down beds. a very nice, spry 78 yr old lady. After introducing myself to her and talking a little bit, I told her I needed to do neuro checks on her. SHe got a real cute grin on her face, and told me to go ahead. When I checked her pupils, her right eye was reactive, but her left was fixed and dilated. I kept calm, she kept smiling and talking while I cooly(I thought) checked the chart for her previous pupil checks. ALL WERE PEARLA! I checked again, trying to act like nothing was wrong, and the pt kept grinning at me, but that left eye just looked, well, a little odd! I finally said,"Have yoiu ever had any problems with that left eye?" She said,"Now, honey why would you ask me something like that?" I started to explain pupils reacting to light,etc, and she laughed out loud!She said,"I have had a glass eye for 25 years, And not one person has noticed before you!" She was right, she had had 5 nurses in acute neuro before me, they had all charted PEARLA in her neuro checks. I also read all the progress notes, the neurosurgeon hadn't caught it, either!:uhoh21:

I would also love to open my own LTC facility! It would be perfect, with beautiful gardens, great food, in a home-like setting. And of course, all the staff would be vastly overpaid, and love their job! The residents would be so happy! I also dream of going back to that golf course in Maui, and hitting a hole-in-one on the signature hole!

I got into a great study group. We would get together before every test, and no one would leave until we all knew the material. I don't know what I would have done without those wonderful people!

I am with you,Amanda! Very well put. Passive -aggressive people are a pain. I have no idea how so many of them in up in management.

OK, I must share this one. The student nurses association at a local college held a "haunted house" for a fund raiser over Halloween weekend. Some of our ED nurses helped them out.(decorating,playing "ghosts",etc.) Two days later, I am at triage. Young man comes in to be seen, his c/o,"You people had that haunted house, and I went to it TWO days ago, and I have been nervous and upset ever since!" I said ,"Sir, exactly what is it that you want us to do?" He said,"I don't know, but it's all YOUR fault that I am like this!"

Love my Crocs! A gift shop near my home was having a sale, $11.00 a pair, so I got 2 pairs. They do seem to run a little big to me.
