Has anybody else heard about the "nationwide urinal shortage" (the type used in hospitals)? This was announced at work, we are to make sure that urinals are appropriate for patients.

We should also consider using a basin or emesis bag as alternatives, if urinals are not available.

So, I did a web search...no results. Checked with the FDA...nada. Looked at specific manufacturers, not a word.

So what do YOU know?

I think management just doesn't want us wasting product making Xmas urinal wreaths.

If you have any info, I am dying to hear it.

Thanks and Seasons Greetings

We have female urinals but not male urinals, perhaps because we had been overstocked with female ones prior to this? We were all wondering what was going on but as it didn't make much difference nobody looked into it.

First and foremost - LOL @ Urinal Wreath.

Second of all - Here on the ship we have metal urinals for the males. We reuse them, have to put them through instrument washer in the OR when they are discharged. Not kidding. We dont do this due to a shortage of urinals (I have no idea about that), but we do it to save money.

Too funny, or not! My grandson has a slight problem with bladder control, so has a urinal. We'd better hang on to that. It may be valuable some day!

No idea. Depends on what they are made from, but accounting for the fact that they will be used as urinals from now on in some places, then it wouldn't be a big surprise.

In 2003, when we were about finally leaving NICU and go home, the grapewine news was incoming shortage of filler for some diapers brands, including the one my baby was in all along. Johnson&Johnson was going to switch to "alternate" filler, and I was crazy apprehensive about pretty much everything. So I duly panicked and bought like three-months supply of tiny-preemie stuff in one Walmart. Pretty much cleared the shelf, but then 1) try to fly across the country with a baby, transport crib, oxygen, monitors, pump, etc. and THAT many diapers... we had to call TSA for a special permission to do that, and 2) I had no idea how quickly a preemie can grow. Ended up donating some of them to friends

Why was TSA involved with your diapers?

Why was TSA involved with your diapers?

Because every time one wants to fly with something out of "normal", it is better to call air company beforehead if a possibility of being bumped out of the flight is not included in travel plans. The "unusual" loads usually end up in TSA so that the boxes can be properly inspected and loaded.

Most, if not all, soul-tearing stories about TSA agents doing forced inspection of disabled/sick with cancer/etc clients can be prevented by a couple of phone calls and by getting there 3 hours earlier for domestic flights.

What the hell is a urinal wreath?

We have plenty of urinals at Big Huge Teaching Hospital. I have not heard about a shortage.

That is truly festive. If someone had hung onto last year's, you'd now have a valuable stash.

So, what is the material that they are made of? Looks like HDPE to me.
