I got dismissed from Nursing program at west coast university I need help!!

Published

I used to be one of a nursing students in West Coast University in Los Angeles Area a year ago. Due to my family and health problem I got dismissed from West coast. I appealed my dismissal and I got denied. I was so hurt emotionally, and in bad economy financially, so desperately tried to find a way to get back to school again. I saw the executive director and asked for his wise help he told me "provide some improvements that I can show the community your progressions". I couldn't provide him anything in a short time. He said may you can appeal your grade and I did, but no chance on appealing grade. I left with no hope and losing of thousands of Dollars. After a while I thought why should I cry I should get help to get back on my feet.

During my dismissal situation from West Coast University last year I decided not to lose my faith. I have tried my best to make improvements in my weak areas because I have dreamed of becoming a nurse. I value the profession and I am determined to be an outstanding member. Even though my life has taken a few twists and turns, I have never lost my strong desire to spend my life caring for people, to make a difference in their lives, to be a nurse.

As I studied the new version of the 2012-2013 catalogs on their website I became so happy that I still have a chance to follow my dream in West Coast University as a BSN student again. I've noticed there is a section that meets my need as follows:

"Reinstatement Process for Students with No Appeal or Denied Appeals"

A year ago I got academically dismissed for not making satisfactory progress, and I know in order to qualify for reinstatement, I must provide documentation that the issues that led me to dismissal have been resolved. During this past year, I got my nursing assistant and home health certificate after completing CNA (160 Hrs) and HHA (40 Hrs) and I've passed seventeen units at two semesters in a College. I applied for associate degree in Social Behavioral and Science in a College, and they've already evaluated my transcript and it will take some time for processing documentation. After that, hopefully I will be graduated on March 2013. I hired a private English professional for my reading and writing to work on my English professions, and even took some therapy session with a skilled therapist who helped me find ways to deal with stress in my life and taught me skills to manage my anxiety and stressful situations.

So, I made these changes to improve and focus more on my studies.I tried to found out if I still have the chance because I heard they do accept student in my situation after one semester and reinstate them again. But my bad luck in West Coast is continuing Mr. executive send me letter that: "I'm afraid that I don't have the news you are seeking. You have exhausted the appeals processes at WCU during your dismissal, both inappealing to have our grade changed and in appealing to be reinstated. That decision was final." which I do not understand his writing. this is my right to study there after one year passed more than one semester. I think he is prejudiced and doesn't want me to continue my education there.

I need your help if anyone has any suggestion about my problem. should I hire any attorney for this matter or not?? Please help me with your advice..

I'm sorry for your struggles to get back into school. It sounds like they are pretty set on not letting you back in. Is there another school you could apply to? Maybe if you work as a cna for a while and finish your other degree, your grades will improve enough to get in somewhere else. I hope you can figure something out!

I think you need to reevaluate your situation and find another school to start over. It is obvious that you are no longer welcome at WCU.

From your writing, it seems that you are still having a difficult time with English. It was very difficult to understand. But to answer your question, no you should not hire an attorney. You tried to have the grade changed and get reinstated, and it seems that they denied both requests.

Now is the time to concentrate more on yourself, continue with the English lessons and get your grades good enough to be accepted at a different school. Good luck.

I would not persue it further if it were me. They don't want you back and I don't think I would want to go somewhere that didn't want me there. I would find another school.

I have to agree with the advice you are receiving. I would try to work more on the English and find another school. This one does not want you back and you will just be causing a lot of drama and negativity if you try to pursue legal action.

It's time to let go, friend. It's fantastic that you're working on improving yourself! Keep at it, but focus your efforts on getting into a new program. Sometimes bridges really are burned. Just gotta take a different path!

I know that means, judging by the school you chose, you'll most likely be out of a ton of money and have to start all over again elsewhere, which stinks, but keep your eye on the prize!

I agree with the other posts, you can still fulfill your dreams at another school. You also need to work on your English, so concentrate on that. Best Wishes to You!

I can see why the OP wants to return. West Coast University is a private trade school with a BSN program that costs $132,000 in tuition. The OP probably has insurmountable student loan debt combined with courses that will not transfer, so (s)he is likely needing a degree at the end of the tunnel.

After all, who wants to repay the massive student loan debt when you have nothing to show for all of your efforts and no income to repay?

I can see that, too, but that's just the nature of the game. You can't force them to take you back once you've failed out, even if you paid a million dollars.

We cannot offer legal advice. It seems that you have run out of options at this school. I am so sorry you are going through this. and I pray for you and your family's health and well being.

If this is really your dream...find someone who does want you. I wish you the best.

What a horrible experience for you. Unfortunately, it is not your "right" to study there. The executive that sent you the letter is not prejudiced against you, it is not a personal decision. The SCHOOL has determined that you are not a worthy candidate for their BSN program based on your performance, their policies etc, etc, etc. That is their prerogative as a for-profit school.

I suggest that instead of spending money on a lawyer that you use that money to go to another school! There is no guarantee that hiring a lawyer will get you back into the program. It could end up being a big waste of money.

Continue to pursue your dream, just refocus your energy in a more productive direction.
