Hello everyone....I hope you don't mind me venting a little here....
So I'm 23, and finally after over 6 years of being out of high school...I finally decided to get my head out of the gutter and go to school! Nursing seems to be my passion for the moment, and I am soo dedicated to this! I begin pre-reqs in the fall.
Of course the first step is to drive. I never needed to drive before. No one wanted to teach me, and there was no reason to. Plus I was masking my cowardness on that excuse. I now have a reason to....to go to school! I passed my permit test on May 29, and have practiced driving for the last month. On Tuesday I took my test..and didn't pass!!!! The instructor said the only reason I didn't pass was because I missed a sign that said "No right on red", and I made the right!! I just started crying!! You work for hard for something you'd NEVER think you would do....and then fail at it!!! This is my first step of independence and being a nurse.....to drive!!!
So....school starts in Aug., I have a month and a half and 2 more times to get it right!
Thaks for letting me vent....this is such a huge obstacle to me...it really is!

I know how you feel believe me.Dont be discouaged. When you try and fail, all you have and need to do is to try again. You dont have to lie where you have fallen. You need to get up and try again cos i know that you will make it.

Try again. Don't let this be the obstacle to you not going to nursing school. Good luck.

Next time you will take few extra seconds and look for any possible signs and pass.

Oh, bummer!!! Sounds like you got stuck with a real stickler!!! Don't worry, you'll pass. Now you'll know to pay more attention to those signs!!! I don't recall ever seeing those signs before (no right on red), but they are popping up all over the place now...we even have ones that say no right on red except for right lane (when there are multiple right turn lanes). I tell ya, driving is getting more and more exhausting!!!
I know you'll pass...best of luck to you!! I know what you mean about not driving til you have to...I didn't want to drive, but finally at 18 when I had to work, I started driving. I had my license at 16, but never drove!
Keep us posted and sending you many postitive vibes in hopes that you pass!!

Sammygrll...my middle daughter is 17 and took her theory test last week...she also didnt pass. (Here you take the theory and when you pass you can take the practical test) Anyway...she thought she would breeze it as her sister passed first time, but hey, she didn't! Her attitude is that she doesn't want to do it any longer but we are tryin to encourage her to keep going. Same for you girl...DONT GIVE UP!!!!! Lots of folk dont pass first time, and go on to be good drivers!!! You WILL do it babe!!!!!!......................Good Luck!
Thanks for all the encouraging thoughts!! My husband has been soo wonderful and supportive too!!
I have the next app. in 2 weeks....so wish me luck! It's at a diff. dmv though since I needed the closest app! I'll try and practice around that area too...
I'll let ya guys know how it goes in 2 weeks...I WILL drive!!!

Don't give up. I passed my test by only 2 points and remember it to this day! The tester said I made a left turn in front of an oncoming car and that he should have failed me. I thought the car was way far away. If you can talk to other people, you might find out where there is a DMV office where the driving test is easier. That is what my daughter did when she took her test. Word went around with the teenagers that if you went to a certain office in another town, you got an easy test route. She went there and practiced on the test route, took the test, and told me that it really was easy. Just a thought. Anyway, good luck.

When I took mine, like Caliotter3, I only passed by the skin of my teeth. I turned the ignition... twice. :uhoh21:
The test car had a much quieter engine than the car I had inherited, the 10 year old "Brown Beast" (Chevy Caprice with a headliner that touched the top of my head). When I cranked the ignition at the beginning of the test, this test car was so quiet that I did not think it had turned over. I soon found out I was wrong. :) Lost five points right off the bat and pretty much sent the instructor into cardiac arrest on the spot.
I laugh about this incident now. Hang in there - one day you'll laugh about this every time you see a "no right on red" sign.

You just missed one little thing! Next time you’ll be sure to keep your eyes open for all those signs and will breeze through.
I’ll let you in on a little secret; I took me three times to pass my drivers test. If I failed the third test I would have had to retake behind the wheel training. I honestly believe that the tester only passed me out of pity because I had a panic attack in the middle of the test and had to pull over for a minute.
Even if you don’t get your license don’t let it become an excuse for not going to school. If you live in a suburban area there are buses often running to the local colleges. I have quite a few friends that are in their 20’s and would rather take the bus than take their drivers test.
