Human Anatomy / A&P I Club for Fall 2007

Published

I'm starting human anatomy next week, and would love to get a sticky started to keep each other sane. I'm a bit nervous about starting this class, as I really need an A, but work full-time and will also be taking abnormal psych. It's going to be a lot of work! :uhoh3:

Let's help each other out through this forum! :welcome:

So, when are you starting, where are you taking it, and how are you feeling?

I'm also finally taking A & P this fall, starting on the 5th. Just looking at the book, and the parts about chemistry, cells, and tissues is already freaking me out. I'm looking forward to sharing this experience with the rest of you. Good luck.

My class started online on 8/20 and by Saturday night I had turned in labs on 3 chapters and had a quiz. I am like some of you in that the amount of the workload is amazing! I had a ton of technical problems logging on to the quiz. Tried to take it at 2 pm on Saturday and it wouldn't let me in. Finally at 10:30 pm, after four emails with my professor, a total reset of my computer system (after it had been checked for compatability with their program), & two hour-long wait times for the technical help desk at the college, I finally got to take my quiz. Not what I needed after being totally overwhelmed with the workload. I made a whopping 63% and the only thing I can say about that is I passed and now I really know what I'm in for. I did make A's on my labs. I am so glad this forum exists. It's obviously going to be a lifeline for a lot of us! Thanks for letting me vent. Back to tissues.......

My school splits A&P into Anatomy in one semester and Physio in it's own semester. I'm afraid that this is going to be an odd way of approaching the subject. It seems like too many systems to learn in one semester. I'm also taking Chem this semester, so I'm going to have to work super hard and keep focused. I'd love to join in to the group here for moral support. Ok, back to reading my texts. My Anatomy text is the Martini book. Is anyone else's school using this one? It's freaking huge and doesn't fit in my backpack!

my school does the same. at first i thought it would be better because we only have to learn what the parts ARE and not what they DO, but then again... now it seems like a lot to fit into one semester. i guess only time will tell!

:uhoh3:

I cannot believe how much work there is going to be btw. the labs and reading. I'm also taking Micro. Is that crazy? Anyone else done it?

THanks,

I have been waitlisted for Human Anatomy all summer, and just found out yesterday that the instructor has given me an override. I am really excited!

I graduated from college 3 years ago, so I'll have to hone my study skills again. I only need this class and then Phys before I apply for nursing school.

Anyone else using McKinley's human anatomy? I ordered it yesterday, and am hoping it will be here by the end of the week.

my class started Monday night and we already did chap 1,2,3. I also have a test on these chapters on wed. The instructor sucks. there is no outline, no powerpoint. I have been up with my reading so it's not bad but I feel bad for those who haven't.

hello I started on Monday too and so far wow lots of info. Can someone explain to me what an enzyme is?? I know it's a protein that accelerates chemicla reactions but so is catalyst. Are they interchangeable. the names I mean. Also what is a Electrolyte. When I look it up it's sodium, potassium.... ions but aren't these just ions why are they called electrolytes?? Is it b/c they are in water now?? anyone help!

studentIVlife: An enzyme is specifically a protein that catalyzes a specific biochemical reaction. I'd be careful about using the word catalyst interchangeably because catalyst could describe anything that catalyzes a reaction. An electrolyte is a soluble inorganic compound that partly dissociates in water to form ions which then can conduct an electric current in a solution. It's because they conduct an electric charge in a solution (it doesn't have to be water).

Does that help?

I'm still trying to get out of my online hybrid class and into a live lecture class. Tonight about 30 students showed up to try and add the class that I wanted. They held a random lottery for 9 spots and I didn't get in. I'm trying again on Thursday so wish me luck!

had my first class last night, and i loved it. everyone in my class is pre-nursing except one who is majoring in surg. tech. i am really excited!

:lol2:

I start A&P I this fall also!!! I have heard horror stories about the class and I know a lot depends on who you get as a professor. I do not know what to expect!!

This is a great thread! Maybe we can all help each other out. Good Luck everyone!!!

Our instructor told us "Do not listen to the stories others have said about A&P." She said it is not as bad as people think although it is time consuming and alot of memorization.:uhoh3:

Man-I hope I don't get slapped for this- I love my INSTRUCTOR! She is incredible. She has everything layed out for us so there is NO guess work on what is to be expected on any quiz or exam. Her exams seem a little difficult in the way they are layed out but, like I said, no guess work on what will be on the exam.

This is where I probably will most likely get slapped- we have NO FINAL!!! I about did a kart-wheel in the class room. Her reasons not to have one is that our last unit has the most info and it would run into exam time so, instead of frying our brains on not only what we are learning but also to fry out on what we have learned she wants us to concentrate solely on that particular unit.
