To take Micro or not??...
Will you have a wait after being accepted? If so I would not take Micro now. My school didn't really care who took what..it was a waitlist; if you completed pre-reqs you were considered for " the list" and eventually they switched to GPA system...Get your app in. That said, I find Micro one of the most useful prereqs I had to take. It helps me understand results of labs at work. Good Luck to you!

Schoolcraft waitlist
Hi there, Let me first say I graduated from Schoolcraft College with a degree in nursing (RN), and I feel they have an excellent program. I'm just wondering if maybe you want to apply everywhere? I say this because you may want to go back for the BSN anyhow and could just finish it all up now. ? Oakland University and Eastern seem to have shorter wait lists. ? Either way there would be loans to pay back. Good luck wherever you end up

Helping patients with migraines
I just saw something new...Mag sulfate for migraines. Had never seen it until a few months ago in the hospital and had to go home and google it. Sure enough, found research articles regarding its effectiveness. Interesting.

Local anesthetic lasts for 3 days
I'm curious how this would affect mobility?

Pharmacology
Must be funny to read my old posts because I joined AN before I entered nursing school and now am about to graduate. It goes so fast! One more book I wanted to recommend to you...Fluid and Electrolytes made incredibly easy. I used it all of first year and re-read it over the summer and second year as well. It is beneficial for testing purposes first year and for hanging iv's second year.

Pharmacology
My only suggestions are to never miss lecture and study the power points - they are awesome. I saved mine and still use them today. You will also use them in fundamentals when you need to make drug flashcards. Good luck!

Pharmacology
Hi - In answer to your question, the syllabus will be online for you right before class starts at Schoolcraft. I graduate in 4 weeks, so I know how excited you must be. Usually the instructor you will have for that course posts materials on the Blackboard site early although I have had to wait for the first day of class before. Good luck to you!

Help with Hep-lock!
When I was learning, it was helpful to watch some of the youtube videos. There are plenty if you type in how to convert iv to saline lock. All you are doing is disconnecting the long tubing and connecting the catheter left in the patient to a short version (small u shaped tubing) taped to the pt's hand (or elsewhere). There is still access to give meds through the lock and you can quickly hook up tubing again if a bag of something is ordered. The locks are usually flushed q. shift. Good luck Boat

need info about schoolcrafts nursing program
Hi there, I am in the second year of the program. 3 more classes to go! Schoolcraft switched last year to a ladder curriculum. Everyone take the same prereqs. Then, the first year is 1 15 week class and the rest are 7 weeks, this includes a spring course that runs until the end of June. Lecture is 1 day/week. Clinicals are 2 days. After the first year, there is a capstone course in the summer the results in the LPN certificate. You may then exit or continue on with the second year. There is no part time. Boat

Good Morning, I'm wondering if anyone read the article in the Freep this morning about community colleges offering BSN degree in the future? The end of the article states a BSN is usually needed to get an ENTRY level position. Thoughts???? Signed, Amost completed ADN!

Anyone in the LPN program at Schoolcraft
Responding to MsAshley, There are no longer two seperate programs at schoolcraft. One big long waitlist. We all take the same courses the first year. Then, during the summer there is a capstone course that upon completion allows you to take the NCLEX for practical nursing and become an LPN. Or, you may choose to finish the second year and take the NCLEX-RN.
