What do you think?

[i realized immediately after posting this that Joplin sustained a major tornado in 2011 (These statistics were published in 2012.) and they are in the process of rebuilding the hospital, so that affects the statistics. But there are other places where pay is poor.

The Lower Savannah (South Carolina) nonmetropolitan area has 10% of nurses making less than $15.36. And Wheeling WV-OH, 10% of nurses make less than $15.65.]

i wouldn't do it for 11 or even 15 dollars and hour....... Not only do i work very hard I am in a high risk job for being exposed to illness and disease, back injuries and violence............I simply would not take the risk for less than i made as a waitress..

For anything less than 25 bucks in an acute care setting I'd drop my job and go be a mechanic. That is pathetic no matter where you live.

I have to wonder if these are salaried nurses working long hours...

Specializes in L&D.

11/hr as a RN (especially a BSN RN) is an ABOMINATION.

Specializes in Pedi.

I made $10.50/hr as a student working as an aide.

Student nurse wage in BC Canada is like 26 bucks an hour

$11 an hour is minimum wage. Sad.

Specializes in Acute Care - Adult, Med Surg, Neuro.

I made more than that as a housekeeper. I would quit and deliver pizzas.

As long as people are willing to accept those wages, there are employers that will pay that low, or lower.

Specializes in Med-Surg, NICU.

I work as an aide and I make more than that at one of my jobs. That is insane. I wouldn't take anything less than 23-24/hr as a new grad nurse, let alone with tons of experience.

Specializes in med-surg so far.

I'm a new RN (got my BSN in May '13) and my base pay is $18/hr on a med-surg floor at medium size acute care hospital. I live in Alabama and the cost of living is low here, but I still thought I'd make more than I do.

Specializes in LTC, med/surg, hospice.

That is an insult. I made 13/hr as an new LPN in 2007 and my classmates employed in other facilities thought that was low.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

Wow. If that's how much the RNs get paid I can't imagine the other staff (LVNs, CNAs, techs, etc). I have never made less than $18/hr as an LVN.
