The wonderful thing about nursing is that it is open to everyone of all ages. Please give a cheer to all the people who believe that age is not a factor in learning. And, to all the people who strive for knowledge regardless of age. How old were you when you started nursing school?

I will be 20. I feel a little bit behind from everyone I know. People from high-school will be in their third year of college, while I'll be in my first year of my ADN program. By the time I get my ADN and move on to get a BSN, they'll be out of college. I also feel like I wasted my whole freshman year at a state university. I wanted to be a English or History teacher and took a whole bunch of useless liberal arts courses. Towards the end of my freshman year, I decided to become a nurse because of it's stability. Unfortunately, my GPA was quite low (3.3) and I had no chance of getting into the university's BSN program. I then transferred to a local cc, got all my pre-reqs finished, and I'm starting the ADN program this fall. On the bright side, I saved tons of money by going the ADN route.
I was 24 when I was accepted to an ADN program and I'll of course be 26 when I graduate. I think the average age in our class is early to mid 30s. Almost everyone has kids with the exception of 5-6 of us out of a class of 40 and approximately half are working at least part time during the program and are doing fairly well.
I will be turning 27 two weeks before starting my first semester of nursing school. I will be 29 when I graduate from the ADN program. I am a single mother of two children ages 2 and 4. I feel like I am behind having other friends with college degrees but when you actually think about it, everyone's timing is different. I plan to get my bachelor and masters degree following my ADN once my kids are a little older. Best of luck to all of you. I don't know how I am going to juggle working full time and going to school full time but I will get it done!!!
I became a paramedic at 22- 23. I got into my BSN program at 24. If all goes right, I'll just be turning 27 a few days after the program ends...
I still cringe a lot at that... But I'm trying to convince myself that it's not bad and I should be proud of the work I've done as I'm the only person in my family to really go to college.
