How old were you when you made the choice to become a NP?

Published

Hi everyone! I started school to get a BSN at age 26, I was just wondering what a "realistic" age is to go back to school if I did in fact decide to pursue becoming a NP.

How old were you when you started?

I'm 29 and I'm not going back until I'm around 40... so hopefully that's not too old ;)

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

I began the BSN to DNP at 34 and will finish at 37.

Specializes in ER, ortho, tele, PCU, GI.

I started the FNP program at age 33 and I'll be finished next year just after I turn 36. I wouldn't recommend waiting too long if you know that's what you want to do.

Specializes in NICU.

I was a new grad at age 22 and applied to school at age 26 and now will graduate when I'm 28.

I was 23 when I decided on nursing and the NP role... but I'll be 28 when I graduate.

Specializes in FNP, ONP.

56, will be done at 58. Only a few months away!!

Specializes in Nursing Education, CVICU, Float Pool.

I'm 20 now. Don't plan to apply to NP school until I'm 22 or 23 that will rough put me at either 25 or 26 when I'm done. I work in the CVICU now and like where I am.

Starting at 52 - will be done when I am 55

Specializes in Home Health, Podiatry, Neurology, Case Mgmt.

I'll be 33 when I start the NP program next year...35ish when I finish =) I don't really think age matters, what's important is that you can handle the school work with whatever is going on in your life. I was unable to go to school when I was younger due to life and immaturity on my part...I was an LPN by 24, RN by 30, BSN 32 (this year) and next year rolling right into NP...just gotta do what works for you!

Specializes in APRN, ACNP-BC, CNOR, RNFA.

Started at 32, went part-time and finished at 35.
