How much do you make?

Specialties Private Duty

I hope I'm allowed to ask this question. How much do you make per hour for private duty? Do you get benefits? I'm ashamed to say that I make 22.50 an hour and I have no benefits. I could sign up for insurance but it's 300.00 a month which I can't afford so I don't even have health insurance. I want a better job but man it's hard to find a job where I live.

Each state disperses funds according to state regulations regarding Medicaid and consistent with federal guidelines. In NJ all children on Medicaid are required to utilize one of 4 managed care HMOs. Medicaid waivers for pediatric skilled PDN are no longer through the county health department special children's health but through the managed care HMOs. One HMO reimburses $14/hr for RN or LPN skilled care for non high-tech cases and $18/hr for high tech ( trach/vent)

If Nj agencies get reimbursed $18/hr Rn then how is the agency paying nurses $32/hr?

I actually heard that NJ reimburses $75/hr for lpn and $100/hr for Rn for pdn.

Got to check that out.

Hey, the M agency lowered their wages to that in my area! And one of their ads in the past listed $14 an hour!!! There are many CNA's who earn more.

In California?

Geez,i know the COL is still high there!

I wonder if the Feds do not give California enough in "block grant" money.

That may be the agency bill rate. It was in the news last year. Very few agencies pay nurses $32/hr but it averages out with some companies reimbursing more than others. The agency cannot bill different rates to different companies unless they want a federal investigation for fraudulent billing

So basically it is the state that controls wages more or less?

(I also know pay depends on agency)

Basically... the state decides "we will pay $XX.XX/hour for LPNs doing PDN work and $YY.YY/hour for RNs doing PDN work"... taking into account the typical wages for nurses in that area, cost of living, etc.

And that's the rate that the AGENCY gets paid... out of that amount, the agency has to pay the nurse's wages, nurse's employment taxes (social security, unemployment, etc.), worker's compensation insurance premiums, benefits such as health insurance / holiday pay / shift differential / vacation time.... plus the wages (and taxes and worker's compensation and any benefits) for all the office staff, plus rent, utilities, furnishings, etc., for the office.

I don't know what the deal is in Cali. All I know is that many of us, when complaining about wages over the years, have liked to blame a good deal of the problem on the influx of import nurses to drive down wages. Maybe, maybe not, but no agency, or any other employer for that matter, including the infamous M agency would be paying low wages and lowering those wages unless there were not a line of eager nurses willing to prostrate themselves to receive those wages. If you don't want the job at whatever wages we choose to offer you, there are plenty of others waiting to smile at you on their way to the bank. No employer refrains from making that fact of life known.

In northern NJ $28-$34 seems to be the average Rn Pdn pay rate /hr and the lpn rate is 24 to 26/hr.

In south Jersey RnPdb hourly pay rate ranges $26 to 28/hr

Lpn rates were $21 to $23/hr.

I was actually thinking the problem could be the number of non citizens who receive healthcare.

I do not understand why a less populous state like Oklahoma, for example, receives the same amount of Medicaid grants as a more populous state like California.

They don't. The amount of Medicaid grants varies by state and a number of factors

Each state varies. In my state, they pay based on the complexity, age, etc of each pt. Some agencies are paid a minimum of $30 something per hour (may have changed from the last I saw). I think I remember $34 or $36 an hour. But they pay much more for complex cases. They don't pay based on RN/LPN since the agency can choose either to hire. But private insurance pays much more. That's why some agencies pay more on private ins cases. One agency told me they wouldn't pay more with one insurance. I found out that they still get reimbursed at a higher rate by that insurance company, but the ins company is slow to send them a check so that is their reasoning. Just another excuse not to pay.

Funny how one agency tells me they are struggling paying us poorly and not giving raises. But another agency in town pays very well and the owner is driving a jaguar.

I'm an RN. I make $18 to $23 per hour, depending on the shift (nights pay more than days, weekends more than weekdays). Health insurance for 2 adults costs me $800 per month. My kids are on Medicaid.

Wow. $18 an hour is LPN money where I live.

$17/hr as an lvn in cali. I just got a raise from 16 to 17 after being with the company for a year.
