How many have had to take A&P I over

How common is it to take A&P I twice because the first time around you didn't get at least a C in order to be put on the nursing waitlist? I'm not sure if I will be passing this course this semeste(I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I pass with a C) and I'm wondering since A&P is such a hard course if students have taken it more than once in order to get that passing grade.

Also, would it be better to take this class at the school rather than an online course? Right now I am taking the online course and I am wondering if I would learn more if I had lectures to go to rather than just reading the chapters on my own, which is making it difficult at times to comprehend the material.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!!

Hi there studentnurse,

I was fortunate to where I only took all of the science courses once to pass. I've recently applied and am waiting for hopefully great news. To answer your question, I think that a course like A&P should be taken in a traditional class because you will get so much more from the teacher-student interaction and not to mention hands on experience with the labs. The labs are to apply and reinforce what you learn in lecture. Many of my classmates have had to retake the A&P class so its not uncommon. The important thing is how comfortable do you feel with what you've learned before moving onto the next step. I can't say for sure how applicable these sciences courses will be in for us when we're in the program, but it is a good foundation to build upon. If you have to retake then so be it. An extra semester of waiting won't hurt you. you've been patient this long already. Just try to pass it with a good grade next time around. There are those who have to take it more than twice to pass it. Not sure if they are not taking the courses seriously or maybe should consider getting into another field, but it sounds like you're giving it a good effort. So good luck and hang in there. Second time, if need be for you will only be better.

Can you still withdaw without failing? It looks better on your transcript to withdraw than to have an F. Good luck!

I know of one person who had to take A&P over again. Luckily I made an A so I didn't need to. I would also recommend taking a lecture class rather than an online one. I am taking a psych class online, and I know I don't really put much effort into that class. Going to lecture will definetly be best for Anatomy. It also depends on your school as to retaking the class. At the school I am applying to, they average the grades, and you aren't pentalized for retaking it. So, I would find out from an advisor to be on the safe side. Good Luck!

Well over half of my class is taking it for the third time. This is my first time, but if I do not make an A on everything else I will not be able to pull a C either. I have 2 F's in lecture, 2 F's and 3 D's in lab and a low D on my lab midterm. I'm positive I will have to retake this class again. I would drop it but because of finanical aide I cannot.

We have 2 test left in lecture, plus the final and 6 quizes in lab, plus the final lab practicle.

If I get into the LPN class I applied to I will have to retake it anyway at their school because it is a hospital based program. Of course I still need the "real" A&P for later on when I bridge to the RN program.

My problem is work, I have no time to spend in lab, or to study. Seriously I have like 2 hours free time a week. Thats about to change though, thank goodness.

I had to take the second part of A&P over when I was in school. I'd reccommend taking it at the school, especially if they offer a lab with it. You will learn so much more when you are sitting in a class with a live teacher and going to lab with actual specimens to look at.

I'll never forget when I found out I'd have to retake it - and over the summer, no less! I needed an 80 to pass. The instructor wouldn't budge on that - no rounding up. I saw my grade posted and it said 79.5!!! I called the instructor, in tears, asking him to please reconsider and round my grade up. I said that I had a summer job as a CNA and didn't have time to take the class, plus I was moving home for the summer and would need to drive over an hour to school because they wouldn't let me take it elsewhere. You know what he said? "Well, pity the student who got a 79.9, because she didn't pass either!" And then he HUNG UP ON ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :angryfire

I still get upset just thinking about it...and it was almost 10 years ago!

There are a bunch of people in my class taking it for a second time. Being that you have to have an A, I think it happens all the time. I just hope maybe I will keep my average up where it is now.

Many many people in my school fail the science prerequisite courses and have to take them more than once..... 28 people dropped my A&P 1 class last semester and only me and another guy were able to stick it out t'ill the end with a competitive grade. I halfway blame the school, since no prerequisits are required to sign up for A&P and the others. Many people underestimate what is is expected in these courses, don't have enough background knowledge and overload with too many credit hours per semester. Like another poster here said, take the class in a traditional class room setting during a regular semester (not during summer).

I have a strategic plan on how to approach the prerequisites so that I get the highest grades possible, it might take me a little longer that way but I I rather go slower and get an A in all of them

Unfortunately, when I took A&P 1, there were alot of students retaking it. I was shocked when I found that some of them failed the first time because one girl was one of the smartest girls in my lecture class always asking intelligent questions, etc. Then I found out that almost all of them that were retaking had an instructor from hell that thought students can determine what's important to know and what's not, would give study guides and then not put anything on the test from them, etc. So just because someone fails doesn't mean they're dumb or didn't study. (BTW: I purposely always avoid taking any of this instructor's classes!!)

Do you think it would be wise for me to take A&P 1 and 2 over the summer both 5 week courses back to back??????

If you have nothing else that will consume your time....you will study your butt off, those classes are very demanding ;)

Hi Princess I live in Virginia also (chesapeake), however I am taking A&P at the Norfolk Campus. This is my second time taking A&P 1 last semester I had Dr. Pinkerton at norfolk she is a beast, test are horrible I came out of that class with a D. This semester I have dr fantaskey at norfolk she is pretty good but we have only had one test so far. :uhoh3: Don't know how that is going to work for the rest of the semester. As far as lab goes I am doing pretty well. Good luck to you it can be rough. I also have little time to study I work full time at Norfolk General Hospitial, and a full time student. :nono: its ruff.
