I am 23 years old a mother of a 2 year old. I am wanting to become a RN and work in a hospital nearby. I am looking into Austin Community College for a associates degree in Nursing. Is there anyone else who is close in age thinking about nursing? I am intimidated when it comes to nursing as stupid as it sounds i know nurses are there to help but I am terrified I will hurt someone. I want to feel needed and I want to help others. I am very motherly and nurturing naturally. I want to be able to help my family and friends when they are sick and I want to help others. I can overcome my strange feeling when it comes to needles. I know I will grow out of it. I just need to hear that there are others my age who are feeling the same way :/ just some reassurance is nice.

I am 21, with 2 kids, living back with my mom, and unemployed. Life treats everyone differently and that's all there is. :) There's nothing wrong with it. I will be applying for the nursing program next year at 22. :)

I am 28 with 2 kids (8 and 3) and a husband, and I can't forget my dog ;)! I am waiting very impatiently to get my acceptance letter for an RN program Fall 2013. I work full-time now and I also try to be as involved in my oldest child's school recreations. I am nervous about how hectic life is going to be for the next 2 years but I do know it will be worth it in the end!!

I'll be 20 in July.

A few years ago I served as night shift preceptor for an brand new 18 year old RN. In my state we regularly have 19 and 20 year old new grad RNs show up to work in the hospital. They make me feel old..............

I'm 24 married and in a similar position. I am a nurturer and can't imagine doing anything else. I'm a CNA and love it so know this is he right path. Needles are what I'm the most apprehensive about but so is everyone else :) good luck!![/quote']

You seem awesome! I've seen you post a few times. We should be friends lol. I'm the same age. Cna. Not married though. Any way to do friend requests on here?

And good luck to you op! It's scary for me to but it's what in passionate about. Everything else in the end doesn't matter.

Specializes in ICU.

I'm 26. No kids. I'm not married and I am applying to an accelerated BSN program in the fall. This is a second degree for me so I'm pretty nervous.

I'm 29, married, with 2 kids 6 & 4. I start this summer and will be 31 when I graduate with my BSN, and if all goes well will be 34 when I earn my DNP. There are several people in my cohort who are older than me, have more kids, etc. Age is just a number...if you are determined and work hard you can do whatever you set your mind to.

I turn 23 tomorrow :) . Graduated out of nursing school on May 18. No kid, no husband, but a boyfriend. I went to college for my BSN right out of high school and worked 40+ hours and graduated with good grades. Can you do it? yes. Is it hard? Absolutely. Juggling everything is hard but if this is something you want, just work hard and have faith. Good luck!!!

I am 27 (I turn 28 in a couple of weeks) and I have an 8 (almost 9) year old son. I started my pre-reqs when I was 25 and I just applied for nursing school (currently waiting for my acceptance or rejection letter). You can do it! I think you will make a great nurse!

I totally understand! I am 24 and have been married for a few years. We are putting having a family on hold until I'm done with school. I haven't decided if I want to do surgical tech or RN yet. I am totally scared about either one. I work in direct patient care now so I'm sure I'll get more confident in either ST or RN just like I have in my current job, but I'm just SO intimidated.

Kudos to all of you doing this while raising kids! I can't imagine the amount of dedication you must have to do this, good for you!

21. Will be 23 by the time I'm finished with my BSN and 24 when I start grad school. :)

Specializes in PICU, Pediatrics.

I'm in the same situation as bubbly26. I'm 25 w/no children, no husband, & a Bachelor's degree in PoliSci. I'm starting a 17-month ABSN program in the Fall. I think the 20s are the perfect age to completely change your life like this...esp. if you're still at the point where you're only living for yourself.(like I am) I was scared at first because I think for second-degree students especially, it can be a bit depressing to spend 4/5 yrs earning a degree in a field you thought you loved, just to find out immediately afterwards that you want to be something else, only to still be afraid that you'll finish the nursing degree and hate it too!(Oh goodness, I hope not!Lol) In any case, you'll be fine OP. As long as you have a strong support system, great teachers, & pure determination, you can mold yourself into a great nurse! Best of luck!
