  1. that makes all the sense. thanks! what area do you specialize in now?
  2. ok that what i was wondering. so you can apply for certain areas?
  3. Thanks that eases my mind. also i have another question are you familiar with knowing when a RN starts at hospital do they apply for a certain area like L&D or OR or does the hospital put the nurse where ever they want them like a floating nurse?
  4. When it comes to medicines and diagnosis i was wondering if nurses with years and years of experience remember everything such as medicines and diagnosis's or do some still have to refer to the text books ? Is it ok if you cant remember everything and have to revert to material?
  5. I have been looking into specializing in becoming a OB/GYN nurse but have also been interested in becoming a surgical / OR nurse. I wish to hear everyones good and bad on being a nurse in surgical/OR and Best and Worst about it. Thanks in advance
  6. I have been looking into specific interests as a nurse and I have been looking into OB/GYN. I have read a lot of other post and topics about the pros and cons and good and bad. Now I know there is a good and bad to everything. I can honestly say the only 1 thing that would bother me is the still births. I am a very emotional person and I need to learn to control my emotions. Any tips on how to control emotions would be greatly appreciated. I had such a wonderful experience when i was in labour with my daughter. the nurse was older (50's early 60's) she would keep me company and we would talk about tattoos or common interest. she was sweet and made sure to always check on me, bring me chipped ice or ibuprofen only when really needed. ( i am not a fan of pills) i would love to return that sweet memory to someone else. because of that experience with the nurse and the docs i would go back to that same hospital next time around. Why did you consider or not consider becoming a ob/gyn nurse?
  7. I have tried on several brands of scrubs to get the feel for fabrics and so far I am in love with the Grey's Anatomy and the Koi. I love how many pocket options are on the Koi pants and the Grey's Anatomy are the only ones who fit to my ever so HIP self . Which do you prefer?
  8. Thanks everyone for such helpful and positive responses! I used to let the thought of someone else's bowls, needles, broken limbs and so much more stop me from moving forward in the nursing program but now at the age of 23 none of that even phases my mind. I feel really determined this time. I guess if it's not for me at least I have something under my belt but this is something I really want to pursue after cosmetology school, medical billing and coding and photography I somehow ALWAYS come back to nursing! I wish all of you still in school or just beginning the best of luck :)
  9. I know enough about grants and loans but when it comes to scholarships I know nothing lol do you know of such a program where a hospital will pay for schooling? p.s WAY TO GO YOU! AWESOME :)
  10. I am 23 years old a mother of a 2 year old. I am wanting to become a RN and work in a hospital nearby. I am looking into Austin Community College for a associates degree in Nursing. Is there anyone else who is close in age thinking about nursing? I am intimidated when it comes to nursing as stupid as it sounds i know nurses are there to help but I am terrified I will hurt someone. I want to feel needed and I want to help others. I am very motherly and nurturing naturally. I want to be able to help my family and friends when they are sick and I want to help others. I can overcome my strange feeling when it comes to needles. I know I will grow out of it. I just need to hear that there are others my age who are feeling the same way :/ just some reassurance is nice.
  11. [Hi! I am new to this site. I have always had a place in my heart for nursing. I am 23 years old and have decided to further my career and become a RN. I have heard about some hospitals offering to pay for schooling for nurses if they sign on with the hospital for so many years... (2 years average). Does anyone know more about this and what a program like this would be called? I am interested in either Seton or Scott and White. Thanks in advance :)
