I am 23 years old a mother of a 2 year old. I am wanting to become a RN and work in a hospital nearby. I am looking into Austin Community College for a associates degree in Nursing. Is there anyone else who is close in age thinking about nursing? I am intimidated when it comes to nursing as stupid as it sounds i know nurses are there to help but I am terrified I will hurt someone. I want to feel needed and I want to help others. I am very motherly and nurturing naturally. I want to be able to help my family and friends when they are sick and I want to help others. I can overcome my strange feeling when it comes to needles. I know I will grow out of it. I just need to hear that there are others my age who are feeling the same way :/ just some reassurance is nice.
I did what the US calls pre-nursing when I was 20. I got in no problems and started when I was almost 21. I am now 23 going into my 3rd year of BScN. I just finished a bridge to be an RPN/LPN with a diploma. I'll be 25 when I graduate with my degree!. My program seems to be all mature students in my section of 100 I think I knew of 5 that were straight from high school 17-18 (In Canada there is direct entry to Nursing school dependent of grades). There some 50-60 year olds in my program! Even a lady with 14 kids! If its meant for you its for you and nothing will stop ya!
Go for it :)
Great post! So many fascinating and inspiring stories!
I'm 24. It took me almost 3 years going to school full-time and working to (finally) finish all of my nursing prerequisites on top of receiving a Liberal Arts and Sciences A.S. degree with honors this year. I plan on applying to several BSN programs this winter as a transfer for the Fall of 2014. I've been an EMT for 2 years and I'm hoping to become a Nurse by the time I'm 27-28.
kstrac13,
Your drive and determination to help serve others when they are most vulnerable will help you become a great nurse! I wish you the best of luck on your journey I myself am 27yo and will be starting my BSN program this Fall. This will be my second Bachelors -- career change. I am not married and I have no children. I will be finished with my program when I'm 29! I'm excited and nervous like you to get started, but we can do it!!
I'm 20 married with 2 kids & I start a bridge program this month! I felt that way at first but as I was doing my prereqs I snapped out of it because I have always know nursing is my calling & the only thing that holds you back from doing anything is you & realizing that I said let's go for your dream job and I did.
I'm 25 and I'm applying to the nursing program at my community college in January for the 2014 fall semester. I just have one prereq I'm finishing up this fall. I'm married with a 2.5 yr old girl, I'm about to start a full time job at a hospital as a long term monitoring tech, so we'll see how I juggle everything when the time comes!
