How long of a commute do you/will you have to your school

I am torn between two programs for my ABSN. One is about 45 minutes away, and the other is about 1.5 hours away. My family will support me either way, but they think that a 3 hour total commute to school for 17 months will get old really quick. I know the 1st semester you only have to go for one day, but the other 14 or so months I think it's about everyday with clinicals and all.

So how far do you or will you commute to your school? For those of you with a longer commute, how is it going? Thanks!

My commute to school will be about a 20 minute drive. But we only have to go to school 2 days a week max. Clinical sites are all over the map though! But we only go to each individual clinical site 5-10 times before rotating to the next one. I figure my longest commute to clinical will be about an hour and a half drive. Traffic here is horrible. And one site is in DC, and traffic there is a nightmare.

I personally wouldn't choose a school that was 1.5 hours away, especially if you have to go there every day. Unless it is a top rated school.

It takes me an hour to get to and from school.

No way would I drive 1.5 hours for school. 1) thats a LOT of driving 2) thats a LOT of gas and with the prices rising. Ouch. That's also a LOT of time away from the family. Of course this is coming from someone who actually moved to be close to school (now 2 minutes away).

The college I'm planning to go to is 30 miles away, but with California traffic, that can take either 40 minutes, or an hour and 1/2... it just depends. The good thing is that 75% of the drive time is right along Pacific Coast Highway, so I can't beat the view while commuting! I think smelling the ocean air will make the trip more enjoyable!

I commute about 7 mins to school LOL

Back when I lived in WA though and was doing my pre reqs there my commute was 45 mins each way.

Never bothered me though, driving usually doesn't. I often take long road trips with my kids while husband stays home to work.

3 hours a day commuting though everyday seems like a bit much.

Wow...that's a crappy commute! The school I go to, there's 2 campuses....the main one is 15 mins away and the other is about 25mins. Clinical sites are in the same areas. Good luck!

I am lucky to be about 5-10 minutes by car to my school. I couldn't imagine driving an hour or close to an hour for school, but maybe if it were my only option I'd go for it.. I've heard of a lot of people recording their lectures and listening to them in the car on their commute to school-- you could use that time to hear your lectures again!

The school I attend now is the closest to me and is 40 minutes away. The main reason I chose to do the ADN-BSN-MSN route was simply because I did not want to drive 90 minutes one way to the university for the alternate entry MSN program since I work and have a child. The 40 minute drive is hard enough---but 90 minutes would kill me on gas and on time. No way. Now when I do the RN-BSN-MSN, both the BSN and MSN are online through that university but I don't have to go up there every dern day. It'll take me a little bit longer, but I save on $ for tuition, gas, and my precious time.

I wouldn't want anything over an hour. That's just personal though, plus maybe that's the only option one might have. Either that, or move closer to school as people have stated.

Getting a motorcycle would be another option. I know they're dangerous, but oh so fun.

My first question would be 'do you have to work while going to school?' and my second question would be which school is better? If you don't have to work while going to school I'd say pick the best school and go for it.

I myself get out of work at 7:30 am and go to school which is about 30 min away from work and home for me... then I go home and CRASH! Good luck :yeah:

Moving isn't an option, and these 2 programs are the only ABSN programs that are even remotely close to me. Both are good programs from what I hear, so I am planning to apply to both and hope I get in to at least one! I know a 1.5 drive will be a pain, but it's only for 17 months of my life, so I figure I can do anything for that amount of time! Plus the 1st 14 weeks you only go once a week. I am sure I will get sick of the drive, but I don't really have any other options due to where I live! It's 45 minutes (at least) or 1.5 hours!
