How long is your commute?

Published

Hello all! I am just curious as to how far you guys commute to your jobs. I am a new grad and I am trying to determine how far is "too far" as I continue my job search.

I am still in school, but I cannot imagine traveling as far as some of you do! I drive about 20 minutes each way to school (sometimes twice a day) and that is plently of driving for me! :) For the perfect job, I don't think that I would travel more than 45 miles - both my parents have a decent commute (30-50 miles) and I see the impact it has on them.

1 hr 15 mins, up to 2.5 hrs in bad weather. It gets bad enough, I go in a day ahead of the storm and ride it out at a hotel next to the hospital (on my dime of course).

This is 95% highway/interstate driving. I'm quite rural.

Other option was a 30 min commute, but the hospital is subpar to my current employer and the town sucks.

Invest in great tires, AAA or another roadside assistance program, and always be prepared for bad weather.

Around 25 mins to work and between 30 - 60 mins on the way home. Depending on traffic, flooding, funerals, weddings, protests, public holidays, someone in the Gov't that wants to go to the airport among other things it could be up to 2 hrs.

Distance is about 6km from home.

Also have to make sure that someone doesn't try and snatch your bag (I ride a moto), run into you from any direction on any side of the road, you don't fal into giant potholes or get pulled over by police looking for a bribe.

So this all make for an interesting commute to and from work :)

It depends upon my shift. Generally 1/2 an hour their and back as I go against the traffic for if I am doing mornings or afternoons. For nights it about 1 hour as I am going with the rush hour traffic(and longer if it's raining or if there is a breakdown/crash on the motorway.

I live about ten miles from my current job. Since I take back roads from a smaller rural town (by eastern MA standards), takes about 25 minutes due to low speed limits posted most of the way.

For a short time, I commuted about an hour to my old job when I relocated to move in with my now fiancé. That wore on me quickly and was a contributing factor to my job change. Prior to moving, I commuted about ten minutes (depending on time of day/traffic) to my first nursing job.

I am also a new grad and had a job in a skilled nursing facility that was 15-20 minutes away. My commute is now an hour (longer on some days) but it's worth it for the experience I'm getting!

25-30 minutes in normal weather. I predict it being 45 to MAYBE an hour in snow/blizzard conditions.

15 minutes from my living room to the locker room, by bike. The downside is I tend to leave home at the very very last possible moment...

My commute is 7 minutes. Longer if I i have to stop at the 2 traffic lights. Sometimes there's a train, that slows me down too.

Since I have been a nurse, my commute has been 25 minutes one way, then 10 minutes one way, now 7 minutes.

I used to live in NH and work in Boston. A 40 minute drive on a good day, could take up to 2.5 hours during rush hour. That was rough.

I live in southern NH as well, and would love to work in Boston when I graduate! However, I don't think I could stand the commute! [emoji4]

The farthest I've had to commute was 50 miles one way. My most recent was 41 miles. The worst part was through blizzards and iced roads. All in all, I found the trips to be a time to chill out (on the way home) after a rough day. I was mostly on auto-pilot.

P.S. Time-wise it took between 55 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.

Which route do you/would you take into Boston....Rte 1 or Rte 95? Both must be hell; I used to live (grew up) north of Boston; we used the train (from either Manchester or Ipswich, Mass) to get into North Station and do the subway after that. Traffic at rush hour was pretty dismal back in the early 1970's, so I imagine it is horrendous by now!

Have not been on the roads there since before the "Big Dig". Before that, the exchanges/junctions were bad because you had to go from a left entry to a right exit to get to your commuting road. So, has it improved? Any?

35 minutes. Always the same.
