How long is your commute?

Hello all! I am just curious as to how far you guys commute to your jobs. I am a new grad and I am trying to determine how far is "too far" as I continue my job search.

Specializes in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

I drive 45 mins - 1 hour an 30 mins depending on traffic. The 45 minutes is fine and the 1.5 hour-drive is rare so I can deal with it. I will gladly drive 1.5-2 hours if I can get a job at the hospital of my current dreams, however. If it's for anything else, no, unless I really am hard up for the experience.

I can bike to work faster to work than I can drive (15 mins vs 20+ for traffic/parking) but as soon as I got my car that was pretty much the end of that healthiness. I'm trying to move to NY and I'm beginning to realize that I should probably get into podcasts and start learning to nap while on public transportation.

Specializes in Surg- PACU/Anaes.

Usually an hour door-to-door including a coffee stop. Public transport in a major city (Sydney)

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

30 to 35 minutes no traffic. I'd hate to know the commute in traffic....

My friend has a 45 min commute on the ELL - she took up knitting and donates her stuff to the shelters in her area. :)

Specializes in Med/surg, Onc.

I'm spoiled, it's only 3 miles to work. I can ride my bike in nice weather. ADNs are hired fine in my area. I did apply to a few positions that would have taken me about 45 min one way.

New grad, first and only job offer: 70 minutes one way on weekdays, 30 minutes on weekends. I get rush hour both ways.

Specializes in Public Health.

5-10 minutes depending on if I take the surface streets or the freeway. The only real traffic you'll find in Las Vegas is when you get close to the strip or downtown.

Specializes in Acute Care, CM, School Nursing.

40-45 minutes for me. I don't mind it at all. It's mostly highway, and I love my job! :) My second job is about 25 minutes, again on the highway.

I have had shorter commutes, for jobs I hated. NOT worth it...

Specializes in Clinical Documentation Specialist, LTC.

My commute to my current job is under 15 minutes but I have zero benefits. New job I just accepted will be about a 45 minute commute with traffic and stop lights but with full benefits.

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

Depends on which facility I'm working at. My commute ranges from 5 minutes (the facility I go to the most often) to an hour and a half (last night's drive home, and the length of that commute is more due to traffic than to distance).

In NJ 60minutes with traffic and 45-50 minutes without. I relocated to FLorida and i'll be commuting 15 minutes. In NJ the 1hr drive was extremely hard but it was worth it because the experience i needed , I couldnt get from my nursing home which was 30 minutes away.
