Hi I'm new to this site. I'm takong Microbiology this semster. I have heard both good and bad things about this class. How hard was this class to you. I had to take General bio before and I finally passes it with my 3rd attempt. How many hours of study time do you generaly need to pass? Thanks for your help.

I thought it was difficult in terms of the amount of material but not conceptually. The amount of material was less than anatomy, though.
I don't know what it takes to pass but I probably averaged 2 hours per day in order to get an A.
Thanks I usually study for that amount of time. I have the same teacher that I took for general bio and I liked her teaching style alot and she wanted us to pass the class.

Take lots of notes and pay attention in class. Read the Chapter assigned and read all handouts the instructor might give. If you can make condensed note cards of your class notes, reading, and handouts, this will give you an edge. Also, highlight any words in black and any key points your instructor repeats twice. Instructors usually don't like to waste their breath and are repeating something for a reason- meaning you are going to miss this on the test if you aren't paying attention. Show up on time, hand in all assignments on time and definetly don't miss any classes including labs. Ask, at the beginning of the course, about ways to earn extra credit and then do the extra credit if offered. Lastly, don't forget to consult with the instructor if there is anything you are unclear about. You do these things and you will get a grade in Micro you can brag about. Goodluck.

I thought micro was similar in difficulty to physiology and chemistry. All were doable, but required a lot of effort on my part to do well.

I barely passed gen bio 20 years ago lol. I took Micro last spring along with AP2, it was oh so hard, but I loved loved it! I put a lot of time into that class many hours of studying, every free moment but it is worth it. I found it much more interesting then general bio, but that class will help you, things get retaught in a different manner and you start to "catch on"

I guess Micro is hard...but I think that if you take advantage of tutoring and study NOW, instead of when you are about to take an exam...you'll be fine. Peace.
I thought General bio was HARD. I had my first class and lab today it was not so bad. I did my study guied terms this evening and it was not bad. So I will see what the semester brings as I get into it.

I wanted to cry last week (first night of class), but after two lectures and lab sessions I feel a tiny bit more confident I might get a decent grade. Ask me after my first exam, though ! I am not sure if I think it's harder than A&P or not.

How easy/hard micro is depends on the person. I felt like I barely studied and made and easy A in micro, but it seemed like I was the only one. I had a lot of classmates who fought long and hard for their B's.
It's definately harder than general bio, but what I find to be a big difference is it's focused on one topic and it's interesting so it's easier to study.
A lot depends on the quality of the professor teaching it.

Micro classes seem to vary widely, more so than other science classes. My micro class was the hardest class I've ever taken. It was just as much information as A&P plus it was conceptually much more complex than A&P.
That said, I often read on this board about people who have "fun" micro classes. So I think it's really hard to pre-judge. Good professor recommendations are really helpful.
