How are your grades posted?

Like when you make a 89.9 what does your instructor actually give you? Our instructor drops of any thing after decimal really aggravates me because that's my grade thats what I made not really fair to take off that .9 and .6 :/ it does add up!

My school does not round up so an 89.9 would be an 89. I think it's stupid as well. What other class or major does that? Also my school just started doing that in my 3rd semester last year, so I wish they could have waited. It didn't affect me too much except for my 2nd med-surg class I should have had an A instead of an A- if grade were rounded :(

Our instructors don't round up individual grades at all. Then when they add everything up a passing grade is a 75%. If you make below a 75, they don't round up. I failed my first semester of Nursing school last year because I made a 74.9% I was furious! But if you made a 75.6-75.9 they'll round it up to a 76%. Our grading system is really messed up.

Oh that sucks! I had a friend in our 2nd semester that failed with a 79.7%, we have to have an 80%. :( I was shocked they wouldn't do anything for herbut they didn't.

i'm curious

didn't your instructor tell you what the grading policy is for the course? is the policy not readily available in your student handbook, online, class orientation powerpoint, posted on BlackBoard (or similar program)?

I doubt you were unaware of the grading policy...you just don't like it.

My suggestion...quit pestering the instructor because you're going to get a bad reputation and learn to accept the policy that you agreed upon when you took a seat in the program

We're on a points system, so points are left as is. At the end of the course, the overall percentage is rounded if needed in the basic elementary math way - less than .5 round down, .5 or higher round up.

our tests are marked x/50 so no decimals on exams but when we try to figure out the lowest mark we can get on the final and pass (ie tests=10% each, quizzes=5% total, final=45% etc) then we get some decimals. if its less than .4 it is rounded down, if above .5 its rounded up. our final grade for the semester is a letter grade, not a number so unless you know the mark you got on the final (which is not given back unless you ask the prof) you dont know what your final mark (in #s) was.

I think I had my micro grade was a 89.6 or something and it was bumped up to a 90 which is an A-

Our teachers will round up a final grade following normal rounding rules, so if I got a 91.9 in a class I would be bumped to a 92 and have an A. The only time they won't round up is if it's a 74.9 or similar, 75% is passing and they will not round a non passing score to a passing score. Having said that, it is still up to the teacher, if they don't want to round us up they do not have to.

Wow, that's interesting! I've never heard of selectively rounding before. It would stress me out to no end to be in the "zone" fighting for tenths of points to pass!

I know, we had several students dealing with just that issue 2nd semester and we lost 2 students who were within that one point.

Our grades are left as is. If you make a 74.99 that's what your grade is. They do not round up or down.

I don't recall rounding being an issue for my class; in each core nursing class we had 1000 possible points. Each exam was worth 100 points, the final was 200 points. However, we had to achieve a minimum exam score, meaning our combined average for the tests & quizzes had to be at least 80%, or we would automatically fail. Other points for homework/projects were not even considered if your test and quiz average was below 80%.

Grading scale if you did achieve the 80% test score average was 93-100=A, 86-92=B, 80-85=C, 75-79=D, 74 and under=F.

No rounding. We are given are grade as a decimal...there have been many to flunk out of our nursing program by .1 or .2 points.
