How far do you drive?

Published

Our much loved medical director put his notice in today. Rumor has it he is going to a town about 45 minutes away to open a new inpatient facility. I asked him if I could come too and he laughed, said we would talk about it tomarrow. I am absolutely heartbroken. My boss is ineffective at best and incompetant to be kind. This doctor is all heart and kindness and a lot of the reason many of us stuck it out in the beginning. I would seriously be willing to drive to where he is going, but my husband isn't real keen on the idea. So my question is this, How far do you drive to work? How far is TOO far?

I drive 12 miles to work. It takes me about 20 minutes to get there. My salary is not much. I had a job in a facility 2 hours away making 3 times what I make here, but by the time I would pay for gas it wouldnt be worth it. I like being close to home. If an emergency comes up with my family, then Im close enough to get to them quickly. I can even take my lunch break and go have lunch with my daughter at her school.

35 minutes for me. We have one nurse that drives 1hr and 15 min, and several with commutes between mine and her's.

3 miles, 5 minutes. But we only have 14 miles of road so I could not be far away. I used to drive 35 miles on back roads that took close to an hour. I loved the down time. Now I am never unwound when I get home and it takes longer to do so than the drive I used to do.

I think it depends on the driving conditions.

There are four traffic lights between my home and my hospital, so 5-10 minutes depending on how many lights are red.

Five minutes. Maybe ten if I hit all the red lights.

I like winding down on my 30min + drive (depending on traffic) after a shift. Sometimes I get a little anxious on the way there when I am late. Sounds like if it is works for you and your family, it would be worth it. (weigh the pay and gas issue)

Back in 2003 and 2004, I lived 120 miles from my workplace. It took 90 minutes for me to drive there. I now live about 15 miles from my place of employment.

55 minutes, door-to-door; 46 miles each way, three 12s each week. I love where I work, so it's very worth it to me to make the drive. I love my hybrid and my audiobooks! :D

I live close enough to walk to work. Literally a hop over the fence if you ask me. My door to the nurses' station on my unit takes me approx. 10 mins. It was sometimes hard walking in the summer (Texas heat can be brutal) so some of those days I would actually drive, and like another poster stated, it would take longer to drive, find a parking and then go into work. But now I am enjoying the nice cool breezes in the morning! Not to mention, I am saving a ton on gas--which is money I am using for other necessities! :)

I drive 55 miles (takes about an hour from my door to the shuttle lot). But when I work I stay with family so it's not that bad. I'm trying to unload my house so I can just move where my job is.

1.5 miles. I walk. Gas is outrageous!

i have to drive 20 miles to my contingent job which takes about 25 to 30 minutes. this job pays $40 dollars an hour but i"m still wondering if its worth driving 20 miles to work 24 hours per week. today i was really ****** off because i went to my work and i was told i'm not on the schedule to work and i had to drive 20 miles back to my home.

do you think its worth it?
