How far do you drive?

Our much loved medical director put his notice in today. Rumor has it he is going to a town about 45 minutes away to open a new inpatient facility. I asked him if I could come too and he laughed, said we would talk about it tomarrow. I am absolutely heartbroken. My boss is ineffective at best and incompetant to be kind. This doctor is all heart and kindness and a lot of the reason many of us stuck it out in the beginning. I would seriously be willing to drive to where he is going, but my husband isn't real keen on the idea. So my question is this, How far do you drive to work? How far is TOO far?

The facility I just left had 2 or 3 LPN's who were driving 1-1.5 hours to get to our facility. We had really low census, but I hear they pay LPN's really well...so go figure. One of them even bought herself a 4 wheel drive so she could make it in the winter.

P.S. I'm still looking for a job and talked to a potential nursing agency but I'd have to drive at least an hour away from where we live to work.

I drive 10 miles round trip which is very nice. If I had to drive an hour away, THAT would be "too far to drive".

I drive 5 miles with the option on call offs to float to the main facility that's about 30mins away so I'm a happy camper lol

I drive less than 10 minutes, but I guess I'm lucky in that respect.

6 miles door to door. Cannot IMAGINE driving 45 minutes each way! Gas prices, traffic, car costs, 4gitabouit!

I spent 8 years driving 45 miles each way to work. At the time (pre - cell phone for me) I had a house full of teenagers and I cherished my "alone time" during the commute - the one time of day no one could bother me!

I drive an hour each way... truthfully I love it. I have a really gas efficient car so it isn't really a big deal. It is my cherished alone time!

Many of the nurses I work with drive from 35-60 minutes.

It takes longer for me to drive through the parking lot to park than it does to get there. I live a block away.

I think an hour is too long when you work 12's...that's 14 hours of away from home time with only 10 hours between shifts. I drive as far as 3 hours when I do agency but they put me up in a nice hotel and I consider it a mini-vacation and some "cave time" for dad :)

I used to drive 30 miles each way for a job I absolutely loved. But as time went by I became too resentful of the time and money I had to spend on the commute, even though I continued to LOVE LOVE LOVE the job. After 5 years and going through a car, it was just time to make a change.

Now I work at the local hospital, a job I also love. 3 miles door to door, and I drive my scooter, which gets 95 mpg. Awesome!!

I drive 15 miles each way which can be 30minutes to an hour depending on traffic. It use to be worse.

I drive 12 miles to work. It takes me about 20 minutes to get there. My salary is not much. I had a job in a facility 2 hours away making 3 times what I make here, but by the time I would pay for gas it wouldnt be worth it. I like being close to home. If an emergency comes up with my family, then Im close enough to get to them quickly. I can even take my lunch break and go have lunch with my daughter at her school.
