How competitive is it to get into UTA, TWU, TCU, or Baylor (Texas) for BSN ?
Just wondering if there are any nursing students, grads or recent grads who are from north Texas area?
How competitive are the schools in the area?
I am currently taking my pre-reqs at a jr college and want to know what i'm getting into here.
My counselor says UTA is a great program, but I just hope I get in at UTA. Any comments? I would really appreciate it, Thanks.
I graduated from TCU last year. It was a great experience! I changed my major to nursing as a sophomore, so getting into nursing school was not difficult for me since I was already a student there. If you go in as a freshman nursing student, you're automatically in. My situation is 2nd in line, then transfers are 3rd. But I will say a LOT of my class were transfers and didn't really wait that long to get in. They just worked on pre-reqs while on the wait list. I LOVE TCU. I would go back and do it all over again any day.
I was disappointed in UTA since they rely on their reputation (build from word of mouth and hobb nobbing). When I went looking for my first job after graduating from there, I was told by hospital recruiters that the grads from UTA are the least qualified because the actual nurse training was so poor. However, I have heard that they had to change the program and now have a capstone that can allow a GN to at least know something upon graduating. The majority of my graduating class never got to start an IV or work a pump, so the hospitals that hired us basically had to train us from scratch. But, I did learn how to write some mean 20 page papers on community health, geratrics, pediatrics and management, along with brushing up on my performance/acting skills.
That's exactly the same way I feel about it. I actually went to a trade school to become a pharm tech. I read from other threads how nurses worked as CNA's or MA's or sucn in such, kind of intimidating because they obviously have more nursing experience. I work full time, I plan to be accepted into a BSN program (ofcourse after I've completed my ADN) in 2011. (Yikes!) The good thing is I love shool, homework, etc...So how is your schooling going?
School is going great! Somedays I feel extremely overwhelmed, lol,and other days I feel like I can do anything! The key for me is organization and making sure I read the material before lecture. Those 2 small things have helped me tremendously in nursing school.

Really, when did you graduate?
when I went to nursing school I applied and TCC and UTA and got accepted to both without problem. I chose to go to UTA and there were students in class that had been on the waiting list.
Did you get your ADN at TCC then went to UTA and get your BSN and RN? Or did you do the ASN with RN and later got your BSN?:)
How competitive is it to get into UTA, TWU, TCU, or Baylor (Texas) for BSN ?I'm at TCU in the regular track, and I think my overall gpa was 3.25 and my pre-reqs were around a 3.5. I also applied to TWU at the same time, and was waitlisted.A few days later I was accepted to TCU. TWU called me 5 days before classes were to start to say I was accepted (but all my loan info was already done at TCU, so I just went there.) The only thing I hate is the $14,000 per semester price tag, but the teachers & clinicals are great. I don't feel that the classes are really that hard, but you do have to study. I am graduating this December, so good luck to you! If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!
when did you apply to twu. my gpa is around a 3.418 and if you were waitlisted with a 3.5 there could be a chance that i could get waitlisted this year.. i just want to know how recent this was. im anxious for fall 2009. i have a net score of 83 so i hope something will come through. any suggestions.
Recent grad from TCU's Accelerated BSN. Awesome school despite the $$$! Once I factored in the fact that I needed an extra year's worth of pre-reqs for other state schools, and the lost income for that year, TCU was a bargain. I am a school nurse now and LOVE it!

I applied for the Fall of 2007 and was initially waitlisted. I did still get accepted, but I chose TCU. I literally got the call from TWU that I was accepted the week before classes started. Is that the only school you applied to? Its always best to have a backup! Your grades and net score look good, so I wouldn't be too worried. Good luck to you!!!
I'm still learning how to post comments..so if anyone is reading this..please respond lol.
thanks for whomever responded back to my comment about my gpa and my net scores.
i applied to baylor, twu dallas and willing to go to houston, tvcc, and sfa. thats it so far.
like i said i have a 3.418 gpa and an 83 composite nursing score. im just really praying that i
get in. i didn't stay at TWU which is where i started doing some of my prereqs so i dont get the
.4, but i just want to know what are my chances. i know baylor usually accepts around 3.5 so
i'm hoping maybe ill get that letter. but twu. i've heard it all.. with the 3.7 all they way to 4.0 and if you dont
have that then you won't get accepted.. who knows. i still applied. any suggestions??

TCC's program allows you to sit for the NCLEX which means that you would have your RN after TCC if you passed the NCLEX. Also, there are many local hospital systems that are offered a discount to UTA to do your RN-BSN if you have your ADN. Besides, you may also have the advantage of tuition reimbursement! Good luck to you!
