How competitive is it to get into UTA, TWU, TCU, or Baylor (Texas) for BSN ?
Thanks, I am looking it up right now. ...I think I'll just stick to TCC as it better complements my work schedule. I don't mean to come off as bothersome but have the majority of your nursing classmates came from a transfer like TCC or did they attend UTA as well prior to nursing?

How competitive is it to get into UTA, TWU, TCU, or Baylor (Texas) for BSN ?
karaelaine i would really love to attend uta but how flexible are their classes? i mean, can you take pre-req classes at night? like i do at tcc tues and thur nights 6-720 and 730-850pm? i've read that the universities do prefer to choose students that attend uta prior to nursing (one's who take their pre-reqs at uta.) i didn't think that was the case. there's a girl in my math class who went to unt and said her math class was large and hard for her to ask questions. how would i easily get accepted into uta if i never took my sat's? i did however take the accuplacer. ha!

How competitive is it to get into UTA, TWU, TCU, or Baylor (Texas) for BSN ?
"how many pre-reqs do you have left or have you finished them all?" karaelaine it's my first year in any college and i am a freshman! ha! i am just getting started. but i am extremely excited about everything- school and life. i knew we had to take pharm, but no, not patho. thanks a bunch, i wasn't told that from my tcc counselor. sounds like you have done well for yourself. i hope to be in your shoes one day! i want to work in picu. my mother works at cook childrens and my daughter went there when she was having febrile seizures-she had 6 in the span of a 2 day period. all the nurses were nice and that is the kind of setting i hope to work in and help and care for children. what was uta like, the instructors? there are tons of posts about how the nursing students feel that the instructors are hard on them.

Starting pre-reqs this spring (Feb. 09)...
That's great. I did speak with a great counselor as well over which courses I need to take that would most likely be transferred over to a nearby nursing school. I do not plan on moving. I wasn't a straight A student so I just want to keep my GPA as pretty as I can. Do you know how long the winter and summer classes are, like how long you go MTWT for 2 hours a day or what? Is it like a minimester? Or maymester?

thanks karaelaine . i hope to get accepted into uta. i never took my sat's and just went to tcc for my pre-reqs. i didn't realize there were that many students that apply. i plan on keeping my gpa perfect. so basiclly do i have to keep my gpa in all classes 4.0? would that better my chances? what do you mean by "if you have good enough grades then you will be invited for an interview and a writing sample?" i can write an essay but what are they looking for? so you're a senior at uta, how exciting! a friend of mine is a pharm tech and she's studying to become a pharmacist. what area do you plan on working in first?

WOW! Finally I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I am in a the same situation. I work M-F 9-5:30 and I took my first college course in winter 08.-English. I figured I would to just dip my feet in the water first. So this semester I'm taking Intermediate Algebra(in TX for BSN you need Algebra and Statistics) and US Hist. I went to a vocational school and became a Pharmacy Tech. I've been working as a CPhT for 2 yrs now. It's a good job and easy money-the pay is really great. But it's now what I want to do. Plus I enjoy learning about the human body, medicine, helping people get feeling better. I constantly find my self researching over every aspect online. You are not the only one. I am so excited and I really hope to succeed in nursing. I find myself not so dedicated to my job I have now but with the recession I have to keep reminding myself that I am lucky to even have a JOB. :typing I plan on taking 2 classes each semester and 2 classes in the summer. No winter classes though. What about you?

Pre-nursing student interested in Pediatrics PICU-what it's like....?
Hello to all nurses. I am a CPhT. I work in a mail order pharmacy. I am taking my pre-reqs right now but hopefully be accepted into nursing school by 2011 and my goal is to get a BSN with RN.:) I do have a few questions for you experienced nurses: How did you survive nursing school? How did you manage the so called "competition?" and with the other nursing students? What should my main focuses be in nursing school? I am eager to work with children. I am currently seeing about shadowing a nurse at a local children's hospital (with the help of my mom who happens to work there) and am a little nervous as I don't know what to expect or how to act?.... I do know what I want is to care for children and be the best nurse I can be. I would like to work in PICU or NICU. What is it like for new grads? How hard is it to obtain positions in these areas of nursing as new grads or are there many positions available?- I live in the DFW area Thanks a million! :typing

DNP??......
Hello, I'm a pre-nursing student. I have a question about the DNP? In my "future" years I am hoping to become a NP after getting a few years experience behind my belt. I've been reading a few threads about the colleges requiring NP's to obtaining a DNP. If this is a soon to be requirement how would someone get from BSN to DNP? Would you have to go from BSN to MSN to DNP? Or will someone be able to go from BSN (obtain a few years experience as RN) then to DNP? Basiclly can you get a BSN then get a DNP? Or is the MSN a must to reach the goal of DNP? I may sound a little off but I am very eager to know. Thanks! :typing

Did you get your ADN at TCC then went to UTA and get your BSN and RN? Or did you do the ASN with RN and later got your BSN?:)

How is nursing school different than regular classes like math, history, english etc?
WOW! Sounds tough but exciting all at the same time. I have a friend who was looking to become a CNA, but I told her why not nursing?, her answer was "too long of schooling." I can understand her point of view. So is it the real deal that "nurses eat their young?" AHHH! Oh well, I guess we can learn a lot from them as well.

That's exactly the same way I feel about it. I actually went to a trade school to become a pharm tech. I read from other threads how nurses worked as CNA's or MA's or sucn in such, kind of intimidating because they obviously have more nursing experience. I work full time, I plan to be accepted into a BSN program (ofcourse after I've completed my ADN) in 2011. (Yikes!) The good thing is I love shool, homework, etc... So how is your schooling going?

Oh, yes, I see now! Do you work retail or mail order? I work in mail order. I only worked retial for a month or so. I type scripts and recently got trained in doctor calling function. It's fun though. I work with over 200 RPh's, there's got to be some RPh I know to "mentor" me. I will look into that! Thanks for the suggestion. I asked one RPh if being a CPhT would be an advantage and he said I should be way above the curve.
