Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2021 Applicants

I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.

I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!

it does say “Medsurg/Tele” on the department so possibly...

So you could still get hired immediately onto the ER? Just not ICU?

To me it seems that way. but it seems like ER might be a long shot? I emailed the program contact to ask if there will be any ICU openings for new grads, I’ll let you know if she replies!

Agreed - there's also no where on the application where you can identify the unit you want sooo... I just applied anyway because I can't put all my eggs in one basket ?

I am going to just apply as well. I agree completely with you. especially coming from out of state!

I applied to St. Luke’s today. Harris health & Methodist yesterday! Sooooo ready to start hearing back from places. I have never been so nervous about anything in my life ??

For St.Luke’s, I applied and interviewed with the previous cohort (having a baby in March and decided to hold out and reapply for Summer 2021 start.) Once they prescreen the apps, they offered unit specifics to us to interview for and we were able to use signup genius to get a time slot/unit to interview.

I have a friend who completes her nurse residency next month at MD Anderson and she said they don’t have one residency app, it’s for each unit. Some units have start posting now.

So you know if they offered ICU units to new grads?

Does anyone have any stats on any of these hospitals hiring numbers? Like how many people apply to the nurse residency program versus how many actually are given a position? And how many spots are on certain units?

How long did it take to hear back after sending in the initial application?
